A friend of mine on Facebook posted a speech made by Obama mentioning the Fort Hood tragedy. That began the discussion/debate on every other subject in the book. I have pasted some of the disscusion and want everyones oppinion (both parties). What are your thoughts? Why do you feel that way? For example, she said the POTUS has put our troops in danger. I am a military wife. I have been one for 5+ years. I don't see how he has done that. I can't get her to explain why so thought it would be interesting to see your answers. TIA!!

Holly Laughing at President Obamas teleprompted speech.lol

Holly
come on, could we be more apathetic? I bet he gets more emotional about his dog than the "Horrible Incident" that took place. God Bless those fallen and their families...

Holly
Sorry if this offends anyone, we are entitled to our own interpretation and opinion:)

Carmen Lee
Girl yesturday he said he "" wanted to send a shout out" really??

Gina
I agree with you Holly!

Tammy T
I cannot force myself to watch that person speak.....this country is going to hell in a hand basket and he is sending shout outs give me a damn break UGH!!!!

Diana
Honestly though? It didn't take a mere 11 months to get into the position we are in. Especially since the recession started during the Bush administration. That is a fact. I will agree though, this country is going to hell... just don't think you are pointing fingers at the right person/POTUS.

Tammy T
its not all about the recession and Bush did not create all our problems

Diana
Tammy, what are the other issues you are concerned about?

Tammy
oh there are to many to list but for those of you who think the recession is our only problem please please open your eyes and watch the news and be prepared to protect your loved ones @ all cost

Gina
Have to agree with Tammy.

Holly
Hopefully too much damage doesnt continue to occur in President Obamas term, otherwise, I dont think we will have to here anymore apathetic speechs, because I don't forsee him being re-elected next term. Our economy may appear to be getting better, but the safety of our troops over seas and here in the states and our families here are seriously in ... Read Morejeopardy. I worry about the health care bill he is trying to pass, I dont like that he doesnt take the peoples opinions and concerns into consideration when he makes a decision that affects us all:( Shouldn't we have a say, isnt that what America is all about, shouldn't we be allowed to vote and decide what healthcare guidelines are right for ourselves. I guess the President and his people don't mind because they won't even be effected by it anyways. If our President doesn't want to have the same healthcare as us, doesn't that say something?? Its not good enough health insurance for him and his family, but its good enough for us and our families? I am praying everyday that God takes control of the situation and his will be done in our country!!!

Gina
I am praying along side you, I agree with all that you said. I have NO respect for what OBAMA is doing to our country.

Diana
Holly- Can I ask why you think our troops are in more danger? Ultimately Bush was the one to put them in danger. In Iraq at least. Afghanistan I agree with. When it comes to health care, I digress. We as a people do vote. We voted him into office. Then it is voted on by the Congress and Senate, all in which we voted into office. If you do not like whats being done, you can call them. I called both Senators and a congressman here in AZ to push for health care. I believe they got 150,000 calls that day. When they hear enough from the public they pass/reject votes.

Diana
Another thing Holly :o) - So are you telling me that medicare/medicade is a flop? Are you willing to turn that down if the time comes and you need it? Tricare is another Gov't run insurance company. It works just as well, if not better then most private companies. What scares you so much about health care reform? There is so much fear mongering and lie spewing so I can see why so many are afraid. Like I said though, most are inaccuracies.

Well.  I don't know about this exactly.  But here is a similar exchange i had with a friend.  He is/has prepared a survival kit b/c he feels that he is going to have to protect himself at all costs (like was mentioned in your post).  He really is serious about this and I wouldn't mock him for it, but I was shocked by it.  I just don't see that much danger here at home that I should stock ammunition and drinking water.  He was pretty mysterious about a lot of it.  But he thinks that the liberal turn in America is going to spell its fall and that society is pretty much going to crumble.  WHich I did point out seemed ridiculous to me.  And so he isn't going to be sharing his water with me!

Personally, I think Obama's speech was fine.  Can Holly deliver a beautiful speech at a moments notice from memory?  I can't.  I don't kow why people get all freaked out about teleprompted speeches.

To me, most of the comments sound like talking points from the right wing. It's not only Fox News (they're just a mouth piece) and it's not just right wing radio. These guys gets all of their "opinions" from very conservative organizations and think tanks who pretty much want to remain anonymous, but they filter everything down to the mainstream right wing. You hear the same sentiments, word for word, over and over. Then it starts coming out of the mouths of your friends and neighbors, just as they intended. Just by what is said, I can tell that they have listened to Rush or World Net Daily or whatever.

What would be interesting is to post policies and statements from the Left and from the Right without telling who said what. Then see who agrees with what.

It would be an interesting exercise for both parties.  :)

Friends can disagree. That's what is so great about friends. Even when you do disagree you agree to disagree. That said, there seems to be a case of historical revisionism with regard to who/how we find ourselves mired down in two wars and who was asleep at the wheel when our financial markets collapsed. Obama has been in office 9 1/2 months, so I'm not sure there is any need to defend a record that he hasn't had time to sufficiently muck up yet. Considering the resistance he's felt, I think I'll reserve judgment until he TOTALLY fails and sends our economy off a cliff or becomes Johnson-like and escalates the war in order to please the generals. The pettiness about the Ft. Hood remarks is just pettiness. It probably isn't worth trying refute or even discuss. Sometimes, in order to keep friends, it is just better to let them vent and make no comment whatsoever.

The sad part is of all of this. In the end it won't be all of the outside world causing our own downfall. It will be ourselves.

It won't be the Irans and the North Koreas taking us out and making us into a 3rd world country. It will be our own fault. The fear mongreling. The talk about freedom to choose. And yet the contridictions of it.

We are all for freedom. Chose your own Health care. Etc. The biggest ones complaining, have goverment run HCPs. ie.. The senior citizens who are on Medicare, The Repubilican Conrgessional members etc.

We talk about freedon and yet .. freedom to marry who you want if they happen to be the same sex.. Except if you wish to die with dignity(euthansia or just wishes to be followed) and even the freedom to have an abortion. If these subject come up for debate suddenly we aren't free to make those choices. And yet. We are supposed to be all about freedom.

I think the rest of the world esp in the countries who don't like us are just waiting for us to implode amongst ourselves. In the end, terrorism wins. Based on fear. Based on them just sitting back and letting paranoia do its thing. We are showing ourselves to be a schizophrenic nation who really doesn't know what it wants to be. At least in Europe, they have already figured it out.
