Hi and welcome.

I am Ann - 38 and have 2 girls 9 and 6. I am not officially in school but am in the application phase for a Phd program and work p/t.

I can't offer too much advice but forget about the housework now - it is always behind.

Studying with kids around is hard. I try to carve out time when they are not home and don't start doing house stuff in between. For me - I need to focus.

Good luck and looking forward to getting to know you.

Ann

Hi Renee!  I am Karen, mom to 2 kids (4 and 1).  I go to school and work full time and the only way I can do it is with help from DH and other family.  Our house always seems messy but it is liveable.  I have to give up on having all the housework done :) even though it is very hard.  Can't wait to get to know you better!

Hi & welcome!!! Congrats on your decision! Give it a few weeks to get used to your new routine & like the others, put housework on the back burner. That is definitely the one area that I struggle with finding time for the most. I do things in little bits as I can.

It's hard but can be done. If you like your program, it's easier to find the time because it's work but really interesting at the same time. I'm 39 & mom to the kids in my sig. I'm in an elem ed program & love my classes so far.

Look forward to seeing you around here!

Welcome to the board!

I'm MichaelAnn our cl here. I have two children, 11 and 8 and started back to school 2 years ago as a freshman at community college after being a stay at home mom for 10 years. I'm a science major with the ultimate goal of teaching 4-8 math/science.

Juggling...well, after two years I still haven't really got the hang of it. My best advice, is with kids the ages that your are, they can help A LOT. My 11 year does all the dishes, garbage, vacuuming, cleans the kids bathroom, etc. My 8 yr old feeds/waters and cleans up after the pets plus does general picking up in the living room and game room. They both do all their own laundry. That really helps a lot. We made a schedule on a big dry erase board in the kitchen (my husband and I have our chores listed on it too) It doesn't always get done, but at least when things aren't done, its easy to see WHO was supposed to responsible for what.

I also make sure to schedule plenty of time while the kids are in school for homework. I try to go either MWF or TTH so I have 2-3 days home alone to focus on homework.

Its tough, I have had many breakdowns over the last two years, and its tough to know I have another 4 years of this (or more if I want to go higher than my BS, which I'm sure I do) But I am also very glad I am doing it so that I won't spend the rest of my life wondering "what if."
