My almost 10 yr old (can't beleive that she is that old already)  had been complaining since this summer that she needs to shave, her legs are too hairy.  the hair is quite long but is very light colored, you can't see it unless you are close.  She swims on a league so I know the issue isn't going away.  I keep telling her she's too young.

what do you think?

if I let her shave will it grow back worse now?

I think that's an old wives tale that the hair grows back longer, thicker, or whatever when you start shaving. It's such a chore, I don't know why they want to start these things so early! (Other than possible peer pressure.)

But, Dr. Ruth Peters has this to say on the subject: http://parenting.ivillage.com/mom/0,,bbx9sw4j-12,00.html?ice=iv:mb:msg:ww

Good luck!!

She's the same age I was when I started shaving, and I was one of the last in my class to start.  I know she seems incredibly young, but I intend on letting my daughter do it.  Kids notice and will say something because kids are mean.  When I taught 5th grade, most of the girls were shaving or using nair, so she's probably responding to peer pressure...It's such a little thing, and it will make her happy.  Plus when she wants to wear make-up or get a belly button piercing, you get to say "I let you shave your legs, I think that's enough"
