Did you give out cheap candy to the kids for Halloween?

I remember how I use to grumble when as a little girl trick-or treating I'd get those mystery wrapped in orange and black paper candy that I threw away when I got home.

Are you a cheapskate? Any bad or good experiences on Halloween? Did you dress up? Did you see any homes with "we have the swine flu" signs?

Do you get many kids where you live?

We spent Saturday watching the afternoon football game with friends then joined the neighbors for the sunset trick or treat hayride around the island.

It was too hot here (87F) to leave chocolate on my front porch. I left a bowl of giant pixie sticks with a cooler of capri suns on my porch.

When I was a kid, my dad was a delivery truck driver for a company that distributed confectionary.

He would often be able to buy cases of full size chocolate bars for reduced prices because the case might have been "dinged" or otherwise damaged in the warehouse. So we always had boxes and boxes of full size chocolate bars in our cold cellar. Needless to say our house was VERY popular at Halloween! He even brought home cases of potato chips in bags -- not the little half empty Halloween sort that have barely a half dozen chips but the full size type. Again we were a very popular Halloween destination!

Now I find that you can get candy for Halloween that is quite decent at such a good price that you don't have to resort to the chewy caramels or lollipops. We went to Walmart, picked up two nice boxes of those mini brand name chocolate bars and we're good.... Almost ran out of candy last night which hasn't been the norm in the neighbourhood for a while. It was great seeing all the little kids out. My 14 year old actually handed out candy at the door.

Hi diamondslb,

You just made me hungry for potato chips!

Our neighborhood had more little ones too this year.

Yup, I was the same way. Yesterday I went out and bought four bags (KitKats & Reeses pbcups, my favorites, of course) cuz they were on sale for $2 each if you purchased four bags, and we got only 10-15 trick-or-treaters. I'll save/hide the two unopened bags for the holidays, and the remainder we'll take to our great nieces, one of whom is celebrating her 2nd bday today. I just hope I don't forget about the two bags I hide--3 yo chocolate is no good.

Nothing here..

No kids at the door. Not surprised because this street has been increasingly off the 'trick & treating grid' over the last few years. The kids tend to hit the more densely packed streets nearby than this street.

I bought a small box of brand name choc bars from the local grocery store, just in case any kids did show up. Like last year, the candy will find its way to our (DH's and mine) respective offices to add to our co-workers uneaten/undistributed stash of candy.

It was quiet here.
