A November Welcome to the POCS board!

We are here for you from the get go as colleges are chosen, college applications get processed, the money/FAFSA to attend gets sorted out, and the whole time our students finagle food or book money, select new friends, or study for their phD.

You are not alone ;)

Tell us about your family, your part of the country (snowing?) and don't forget yourself!

Have you talked with your college student this week? What is the latest update?

Did they dress up for Halloween?

Did you remember to set their clocks back last night?

Do you like waking up when it is lighter in the morning?

We are the boys from old Florida
F-L-O-R-I-D-A
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest

Of any old state down our way

We are all strong for old Florida
Down where the old Gators play
In all kinds of weather
We'll all stick together
for F-L-O-R-I-D-
A

"Tell us about your family, your part of the country (snowing?) and don't forget yourself!"

It's too early for snow here. We generally don't see any accumulation for at least another month to month and a half. It's a beautiful crisp fall day today, great for walking in the nature trails.

We have two university students. Both are in engineering (the family business), at a university about two hours from here.

"Have you talked with your college student this week? What is the latest update?"

Yup, both are fine. Nothing new from either of them.

"Did they dress up for Halloween?"

The oldest did. She & her friends had a party. The youngest stayed in and watched his beloved hockey team in action.

"Did you remember to set their clocks back last night?"
Yup.

"Do you like waking up when it is lighter in the morning?"

Didn't notice; I tend to sleep in on Sundays.

***Hello! I'm Julee in Arkansas. Married for 21 years and mom to only DD, a HS Sr. I'm here in anticipation of college! Weather today was glorious. I hung towels out on the line!

Have you talked with your college student this week? What is the latest update?
***DD is tired of me talking about college and I think I have to back off. I just wish I saw more enthusiasm out of her.

Did they dress up for Halloween?
***No. She was on a school bus coming back from her last marching competition.

Did you remember to set their clocks back last night?
***No. We didn't get home from said competition until 2 a.m. so we all just crashed. The clocks have been set today, though.

Do you like waking up when it is lighter in the morning?
***Probably will but I'll hate getting off work in the near dark!

I am actually in the process of heading down the "home streach" for CS. My DS is a Senior at University at Buffalo and will graduate in May 2010-so NO MORE FAFSA for Me!! (although I feel like I've done them forever)

Tell us about your family, your part of the country (snowing?) and don't forget yourself!

We live in Upstate New York near Niagara Falls/Buffalo. I have been married 28 yrs (29 on 11/15) Have a DD - age 28yrs she is married lives in Buffalo. She attended 1 1/2yrs at Buffalo State College she now works in Produce at Wegmans. DS is 23yrs and is a Senior at the University at Buffalo taking Media Comm. He graduated last December with an Assoc. Degree from Niagara Co.Community College- before that he spent 2yrs at Dickinson College in PA - so I feel like I've had the complete College experience- private- CC and now University! Couple of weeks ago we had snow in what we call "ski country" which is south of Buffalo where the ski/hills are. So far last week & this week has been farily mild- for us! in the 40-50's for temps. Had frost on my windshield this morning.

Have you talked with your college student this week? What is the latest update?

My CS commutes from home so we see him daily - he spent the weekend at his sisters and will be home later today after his classes - he has morning classes.

Did they dress up for Halloween?

He was at his sisters- they were supposed to do something where they all dressed up as Zombies and walked down the stree- I'll have to wait till I see him tonight to find out how that went! DD LOVES Halloween and if she could still Trick/Treat- she would. DS was never that much into it.

Did you remember to set their clocks back last night?

When I woke up Sunday I realized I had forgotten to set them back- and had to go around fixing all the clocks. Now they are all set- when I arrived at work- I had to fix my watch & a little clock that sits on my desk. However our wall clocks in the office have not been set back yet.

Do you like waking up when it is lighter in the morning?

Yes- it's coming home in the dark I don't like! LOL

Tell us about your family, your part of the country (snowing?) and don't forget yourself!  Sue here in St Louis where rivers are overflowing and leaves are mostly down - we had record rain in Oct; said it'd be equivalent of 13 feet of snow!  I'm mom to ds17, a HS senior, accepted to the U he wanted to go to.

Have you talked with your college student this week? What is the latest update?  DS went to the U last Sunday to visit with his admissions advisor as he had never met him in person; they'd emailed and talked on the phone so he jumped at the chance of heading over to finally say hi.  Unfortunately he hates HS so it's an agonizing year.

Did they dress up for Halloween? No

Did you remember to set their clocks back last night? Yes

Do you like waking up when it is lighter in the morning? It's still dark when I get up!
