Are the rising costs of healthcare affecting your family?  An unexpected trip to the ER can make a serious dent in your savings -- even if you have health insurance.  We would like to hear about your experiences and how this has affected your family.  Have you had to forego a procedure or treatment because you couldn't afford it? Have you had to juggle your budget to cover a medical cost?

Your responses could be featured in an upcoming iVillage slideshow!

No problems here........despite lots of horrible stories in the media, our NHS in the UK works pretty well most of the time for most people, regardless of income.

It has certainly affected me and my family. We have insurance through my employer. We have had several medications that were not covered that have to be paid for out of pocket equaling several hundred dollars. I have a surgery from last year that is still being paid off. My son had to have some testing and it is also being paid off. I have a mammogram and my annual appointment that I have put off as I know parts of the appointments will not be covered. I will take my son whenever he needs to go, but I will avoid anything myself for fear of what it will cost me out of pocket. I worry about what would happen with a long term illness as my insurance has exclusions on so many things.

We have some pretty decent coverage since my dh has a state job. However, there are some prescriptions that are too expensive ($50 a month) WITH the coverage and the coverage for mental health is pretty poor. We are considering dropping our kids from his insurance since they will qualify for medicaide. With a new baby we will have lots of well visits ($25 copay), a dd on ADD meds ($50), and our dd needs counseling ($30 per visit copay), baby need shots ($5 a piece, not a lot but adds up), I am prone to migraines ($40 a month for meds and $75 per ER visit, usually 4-5 a yr) and that doesn't include getting sick. Add that to the fact that DHs rates went up this year to the fact that our wonderful Governor put a freeze on all cost of living increases and I need a part time job to cover it! Thankfully they covered all maternity related things 100%. Most of DHs meds are only $10 a month and he takes 8. They don't do a good job of covering diabetic supplies though. We pay $175 a month for prescriptions (for all of us) and $40 a month for test strips. Thankfully, all of dhs labs are 100% covered and he has some almost every month. Having medicaide take over the kids medical costs would be a huge help. Sad we are considering it since we do have pretty decent coverage.
