Really Special Education: State Investigation Confirms "Lap Dance Therapy" Allegations

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/maia-szalavitz/school-using-lap-dances-t_b_345477.html

Would you ever send your child to one of these schools? Do you think they can be effective? If you sent your kid, what steps would you take to ensure they are safe?

***Would you ever send your child to one of these schools? Do you think they can be effective? If you sent your kid, what steps would you take to ensure they are safe?****

Having both a bi-polar, and a schizophrenic family member, one of whom I had to have institutionalized, It's a very hard call. Of course these allegations are terrible and I would never want to send my child to such a place. These people acted heinously and were not professionals. But having dealt with psychotic, violent episodes in people I love, I also know that I am not qualified to deal with active psychosis.

I would get short term hospitalization type help for my child, if she were in active psychosis, but I don't know if I would send her to a reform type school for long term recovery. I know that the loved one I sent to the mental hospital looked like a torture victim when he came out, but he would most likely be dead if he hadn't been committed.

No way.  I dated a guy after HS that had been to a couple of these schools through out  his HS years.  It was awful and did NOTHING but cause more problems.  Of all the kids he met at these places not a single one turned out better because of them.

There is no way I would send my kid far away from me when he's having a problem. My son has ADHD, but I am his parent and it is my responsibility to handle him. I can't imagine sending him away, not seeing him often, and just expecting this place to fix him. I think I'd be failing as a parent if I didn't take the responsibility to deal with it myself. I think getting outside help can be very helpful-like professionals who work with the child and the parents. But just sending him away-no way could I or would I do that.
