Homemade stain remover

2/3 c. rubbing alcohol

2/3 c. hydrogen peroxide

1/3 c. Dawn

1/3 c. water

I mix this up in my 2 c. measuring cup and then pour into a spray bottle. Be sure to add the water slowly and then to stir gently so you don't get lots of bubbles from the Dawn.

When using, I spray it on the stain and let set a few minutes. Then I use an old tootbrush to rub it in. Lots of times most of the stain will come out right then. On heavier stains, I'll repeat the process. It also helps to wet the fabric with water first before spraying/scrubbing.

I made some of this a while ago and it did seem to work well, but I'm wondering if it's normal for it to turn clear (when I first mixed it, it was Dawn blue).

My chemist DH said that the peroxide probably all reacted and isn't effective anymore. I have had a couple of things that it didn't get out recently. It's only been sitting around for a few weeks and I've maybe used half of it.

Do you put it in an opaque bottle? He said that might make a difference. I just used one of my heavy duty clear ones that I use for my other homemade cleaners. TIA!

Do you use the Dawn Original, or the concentrated?  What's the shelf life?  How do you store it?  This looks fantastic!!

Mine is in an old spray & wash bottle, so not clear. Not sure if it's still blue or not, lol! I never look inside once I mix it up. I've never paid attention to if it's blue when I spray it out. I've had it last--and work--even after a month or 2.

Questions, questions, questions, lol!!! I had to go look about the Dawn. I use the concentrated. I've always used the blue version, not sure if that would make a difference or not. That's what I just always have on hand around here.

One batch makes just enough to fit into an old spray & wash bottle.

Shelf life, I guess depends on how many stains are on your laundry! I think a batch lasts me a month or 2?? I've never really paid attention to that. It's always worked for me, no matter how old the batch is.

W/dh and 3 boys still at home, this has been tested on about every imaginable stain, LOL! I've always had great results with it!
