Please note that these are guidelines created by the members of this board to help the workflow here. These are not official iVillage guidelines and will not be enforced as such.

Welcome to Signature Showcase! We're thrilled that you found us and we look forward to getting to know you and seeing your work. Whether you are just starting out with signature making or you've already made hundreds of sigs, we encourage you to participate in every section of the board. We'd love to see you post an introduction in the Makers Lounge or join your fellow makers in the chat thread.

You don't have to do anything to “qualify” to make signatures here. If you want to make signatures for others, you've found the right place.

Please familiarize yourself with the Requesting Etiquette and the How to Thread for Makers threads in this folder. Both should give you a solid feel for the way we handle the work flow here.

MAKERS' ETIQUETTE

It is *so important* that everyone on our board uses their good manners. We emphasize to our requesters that they should remember to thank their makers and be courteous when making requests and picking up finished signatures. It is just as important that the makers remember their manners. Please be polite to requesters. If you have an issue with a requester for any reason – whether they are failing to be polite, asking for changes to finished designs, requesting signatures on multiple boards or in multiple sections on our board, or whatever else it may be – please address the situation politely. If you cannot be polite or do not wish to handle the situation on your own, the Board CL's are always available by email and more than willing to step in on behalf of our makers. We ask that it not turn into a disruption as that goes against iVillage TOS.

We all get inspiration from one another here and we want this to be a friendly community, so please remember to use your good manners with other makers. If you are inspired by a particular siggy, please acknowledge the maker who inspired you by giving her a bit of love when you test it. If you loved a sig enough to imitate it, it's also nice to give it the nod of nominating it for Sig of the Week if it qualifies. If you're not sure who came up with the original idea and you've seen the style used by many other makers, then the siggy style is probably a trend, and acknowledging a maker is not necessary. We are talking about a fairly close copy of an original. So imitate, but make it your own! Change the photo placement, use different fonts, different elements, different colors, or something else that distinguishes it from the original. If you are unsure about these guidelines, feel free to contact one of the CLs for clarification.

MAKERS' WEBSITE

Any maker who wants to can participate in the Makers Website that is linked as the Board Website at the top of the board. The CLs call for updates to the gallery pages at the beginning of each month in the monthly Roll call thread. You are permitted up to 3 signature samples and 3 blinkie samples. Just post your examples (and a link to your photobucket, if you'd like it included) in the Roll Call thread and we'll add you. Inactive makers are periodically removed, but may be added back at any time as long as the maker has posted in the Roll Call thread. To remain on the board all we ask is that you create one FFA per month. Showing us that you are still an active member.

BOARD AWARDS

There are several awards available on this board and each one works a bit differently. Here is a quick run down. When you vote in the contests, please do not vote for any sig you have made.

Maker's Choice (McChoice)

Nominations are made by the makers. Each maker may nominate one sig that she made herself during the course of the current week. (The ones that are in the current SOS thread.) All board members may vote for a winner.

Signature of the Week (SOTW)

Nominations are made by makers. Each maker is eligible to nominate up to two signatures made by their fellow makers during the relevant time period. The nominated signatures can come from the current SOS thread or anywhere else on the board. So sigs tested in the August 18 SOS thread must be nominated in the August 18 Nomination Thread. Anything appearing in the SOS thread qualifies for nomination even if it was requested on some board other than Signature Showcase. However to participate in the SOS thread we do ask that you are an active member of the Signature Showcase. If posting to the SOS thread we do ask that you also take part in voting, and nominating as well. Voting is done by makers only. The vote each week is for the signatures nominated the previous week. New Test, Nomination and Vote threads go up every Monday. This is meant to honor the work that our fellow makers have done during the week, so remember to vote for others each week.

Challenges

Every signature made for a challenge is put into the pool for the challenge vote. All makers are eligible to vote for the challenge winner, even if you are not actively participating in the challenges. If you make sigs for challenges, you can also participate as a challenge “victim” by posting to the challenges sign up thread. New challenges are posted on Tuesdays and the vote for the previous week's challenge is posted on Thursday. So on August 21, we vote on the sigs made for the challenges that were posted August 12. Challenges remain open and can be filled anytime, but they must be filled by the vote date to be included in the vote. Please don't vote in the challenge if you were the “victim” -- its just too darn difficult to choose among the sigs that were made for you.

Most of all, have fun and welcome aboard!
