There is a website...ask moxie. She is actually a rather funny writer. But she goes into sleep a lot. She talks about how she thinks there are two kinds of babies. One kind of baby releases stress by crying and gradually falls asleep as crying slowly tones down. The other kind of baby gets hysterical and actually wakes up. This other kind of baby is NOT a good candidate for sleep (CIO) training and may need some gentler methods of teaching them to sleep. I totally agree with her. I mean, we are all different with different personalities, so why do so many people try a one size fits all sleep training method? Some babies are great candidates for CIO. And maybe yours aren't. Mine definitely weren't. There are some other methods you could look into depending on your baby. I know Elizabeth Pantley's book has been suggested "the no cry sleep solution". She puts out many different ideas for you to blend and figure out your own plan. Or there is stuff like "pick up put down" where when the baby starts crying you pick her up, then when she is calm, put her back in her crib, and just basically keep repeating until she goes to sleep in her crib. Umm...Dr. Sears might have some other ideas too though I don't really know what he says. Kellymom.com might have some ideas on gentle training. I bet if you googled gentle sleep training ideas you'd come up with something. Good luck!
