So Nicholas is still in counseling, and so far, so good. Best thing I ever did!
We learned about H.A.L.T. For those who don't know what H.A.L.T. is, let me explain.
H - Hungry
A - Angry
L - Lonely
T - Tired
Whenever Nic is giving me attitude or is argumentative about things that don't make sense, I say "HALT", and it prompts him to think about if he is hungry, angry, lonely or tired. It doesn't always work, but usually he'll say "Okay I'm hungry", or "ya I'm lonely. I wanted to go to so-and-so's house but I couldn't " or "I am angry!". No matter what his reponse is, if we can nail something down, we can talk about it.
I'm using it on my DD Alyssa (8) as well....for her it works much better.
Nicholas and Alyssa have even started "Halting" DH and I.
How is everyone doing?
