Hi, there!  I'm new, too, and am having my own issues, but getting started is not one of them.

I've lost over 60 pounds.  I agree with the fact that before you can truly commit, you have to hit rock bottom.  I don't know what exactly happened to me, but one day I just opened my eyes to what I let myself become and that was that.  I've never looked back.  I am on the Stop Eating So D**n Much Diet.  (I made that up).  I cut way back on portions as I realized I was eating enough for an entire family.  I make better choices when they are available and cut some things out entirely, like soda.

Avoid canned fruit.  Fresh is way better.  Keeping a food diary is always excellent because it keeps you accountable.  Also, you may want to start watching the fat and calories that are in things you buy.  You may be shocked to learn how many calories are in things you thought were low, but how few calories are in things you thought were high.
