Another new month, and the holidays zooming up. Just flew past Hallowe'en and now taking off onward to Thanksgiving, Christmas, Yule, New Year's. Oh, dear! ROFL! Hang onto our hats and motivation, eh? <:D
In my WW meeting last week, they talked about 3 strategies:
1. Keep your destination clear in your mind. Set realistic goals and stick to them.
2. Monitor yourself "in flight." :P Track what you are eating, are you getting 5 servings of veggies, etc., exercising minimum 30 min./day, and so on. Write it down. Journal it. Make yourself accountable to record it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. ROFL! :D
3. Check in with the "tower." In other words, go to your WW meetings, do some reading about healthy substitutes, make sure your quantities/serving sizes are accurate. Make sure your daily nutrition is on track.
Good advice, with my little added thoughts in each... ;)
I have binged lately with the baked chips, baked corn chips, low fat crackers, low fat peanut butter, hummus, low fat oatmeal & raisin cookies. I have come to the conclusion I just can't have this stuff in the house on a regular basis. <:// Just too tempting to binge on this stuff. The sugar/salt roller coaster ride. <:O
I learned something, though, even though I brought some bad stuff into the house as I am programmed to do, food-wise for special days. I bought pumpkin ice cream and a half a pound cake from the grocery store bakery (we know both are loaded with sugar, saturated fat, other fat). On Hallowe'en I gave myself a usual "before WW lifestyle" serving. Felt yuck afterward with all the fat and sugar I am not used to eating in one sitting. :( So, last night, I had a thinner sliver of the pound cake and only about 2 T. of the ice cream (not even the 1/2 c. serving size) and spread the ice cream around the top of the cake slice. Ate it slowly. And I was satisfied with that *much smaller* serving, less than half of what I ate the night before! So, I got my "fix" but with less heavy consequences. So, I hope I can continue to work toward my goals of reasonable servings, low fat, daily exercise, and sticking to my WW "buddies" at weekly meetings.
Also this week, I am due for cholesterol blood work with my health provider's post heart surgery "Multifit" program. I am still taking my statin drug dosage. So I hope I haven't done myself damage with the binging. I'm not fooling myself that just because the stuff is "low fat" that it doesn't have too much fat when I ignore serving size and binge. <:// If I have higher bad cholesterol readings then I will have a major heads-up to STOP IT RIGHT NOW! ROFL! Plus my "Multifit" crew will be nagging on me. :D
Onward! ;))

Gypsy

Those are great points to remember during these holiday months!!! This season can be very difficult on the calories and the waistline. LOL
I am glad you are able to recognize the bad stuff in high doses. I would have kept on eating...lol. I really do like pound cake....not a fan of pumpkin but the poundcake is so good.
Wishing you lots of success during the next couple months!!

I just had an insight about this "treat business" I have been doing with the pound cake *AND* the pumpkin ice cream! A revelation, if you will, LOLOL! <:=P Where is it written in stone that a treat dessert *MUST* contain ice cream to go with a pastry/cake? Or, vice versa, must have the cake/cookies/etc. if you are having ice cream, for that matter?! The new answer: YOU DON'T!!! HA! <:D Why not have one *or* the other. Both are yummy treats, but why double load ourselves like that? Another one of those "myths" about foods and how and what we eat, and when and where we eat it. It's still good to have really small servings if having *both*, like 1/2 of an actual serving size of each, so together, make "one" serving? Which is what I did last night, as well as the night before. But, really, I don't have to have *both* together, I could vary, one one night, one the next, too. A way to enjoy a treat with a healthy lifestyle rather than sabotaging myself... <:P

And, good luck to you, too! ;)) I've never had the pumpkin ice cream before. Found it 'way too yummy, though, being full fat, not low fat like some of Dreyer's other ice cream choices. I haven't had pound cake in years. It was tasty but so sweet (store bakery version) and buttery. Bad news, LOLOL! :D As for the holidays yet to come, like last year, I will not be baking any yummies or making any candies. The whole family basically has health issues or are on WW or making other efforts to lose weight, so what's the point of sabotaging ourselves, right? So none of that. Special meals, eat the meal, and that's that, fine. Or split into manageable leftovers, fine. But no extra pastry or sweets stuff. Not in the house, I won't eat it. ROFL! <:D
