Based on ohearto's statement about making out on clunkers.

A person working and CAN turn in their car, Does have enough to make the payments at a LOW price, Give up the cable, turn the lights off more and go green, Can make out on that offer.

welfare can mean ANY type of assistance. HUD, SSI, TANF, working part time, WIC, those are WELFARE so would you get upset if they could get a better car, low payments.

I coulda done it but mine did not meet the rules. I think it was that it  didnt meet the gas milage. That is where the question came from! Nothing to get upset about.

WIC is not welfare. People with pretty decent incomes can qualify for WIC its a totally seperate program to any welfare programs.

And no i don't think people on welfare can "make out" on that clunkers program, no more than any other person has made out on it. Same thing to me regardless of their income or if they are on PA or not. Who cares.

Not sure where you(the general you) live, but here, if you work you are no longer eligible for welfare. Maybe food stamps, medicaid, some housing if you wait 10 years. I doubt that many car dealers would consider even giving a person with such low income, a loan.

Nor do I understand how making a car payment and having higher insurance is "making out".
