Here is a part of the article...

That's why the food stamp boost is also helping this in New York City, where one supermarket manager says his sales are up 10 percent since the stimulus program started.

"We're actually thinking of hiring more people," said Jose Almonte, the manager of an Associated Supermarket.

"Food stamps have the biggest bang for the buck of any kind of stimulus," said Moodys.com economist Mark Zandi.

That's because food stamps put money into the hands of people who will spend it quickly.

It's estimated that a $1 increase in food stamps creates $1.73 in stimulus. Infrastructure, another high-impact stimulus creates $1.59 for every dollar spent. Compare that to tax cuts which generate only $1.03 for every dollar returned to taxpayers

The food stamp stimulus, while powerful, is temporary. But it's a spark that can ignite business - and put more food on the table during difficult times.

here is another article that supports the views...i could provide many others...

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/cityregion/s_615648.html

Here is just a bit of that article...

"The $787 billion federal stimulus package enacted last month increases an individual's monthly food stamp aid by $32, Rendell said. With 1.3 million peoplenrolled in the program in Pennsylvania, that means nearly $500 million a year pumped into the economy.

"Now who gets the benefit of that? Mom-and-pop grocery stores, grocery chains, food distributors, food processors, farmers," Rendell said."

any thoughts opinions or views?

I think it is very showing when proof is provided that welfare is good and stimulating our economy.  All the anti welfare ppl who claim they would never...<never say never cuz it normally happens> It's called karma...have nothing to say...

Interesting...

LOL, very true. I thought about this board today when I was at the local butcher/meat market getting some hamburger for my mom. The owner is a very grouchy man in his eighties. There were two women in line in front of me, and when the first one left, the one in front of me told him "I don't know if I'd accept food stamps if I ran a shop like this. I think they should only be accepted in places that sell mostly generic, like save-a-lot and Aldi's." Apparently, the first woman paid for her meat bundle with food stamps. And he went "If it weren't for food stamps lady, my shop would have closed years ago. A lot of people just don't realize how badly they'd be hurting themselves if we stopped helping the poor people in this country. You want someone to mug you for those new york strip you have there? Because if they're hungry enough, they will." When she left, he still went on and on, telling me how he grew up in Russia, and him and his brothers would steal bread and cheese, how hard his parents worked but there was never enough, and how happy he was to see that children here don't have to resort to the things he did. He also went, "I love this Country, don't get me wrong. But I've never heard such complaining in my whole life, or such hatred towards poor people. And usually, the one's doing the complaining are the ones who have everything they want!" I think he may have lost a customer in that other woman, but I'll be sure to send others his way.

Wow nice story, and totally true. I'm glad that there are still people out there like him. My local halal shop accepts EBT and i'm so grateful for that. They are great and understanding people and know that times are hard. I have found that many local businesses are really great when it comes to food stamps. Business is business and they aren't about to look down on people for certain things.

Isnt it amazing how others are so quick to tell another buzness owner how to run his place...it sounds as if this man get's it he understands...hard times can happen to all of us,  no matter how much we may deny... "I will never use assistance,  i have a emergency fund blah blah blah...we may have to use assistance to provide food shelter and medical to our children.

With the economy the way it is,  there are quite a few families who were in denial..."high earners"  who thought their money was their wealth are now using assistance.

i h ave not had to use assistance,  that no way implies that i do not realize that anything could happen...Iam a firm beleiver in never say never,  cuz when you do karma kicks.
