I'm so happy to have found this board!!

I'm Katrina. I work full time as a compensation consultant. I am happily married to my DH of 6 years and we have a beautiful, easygoing 15 month DD Julia. We are also expecting #2 in April 2010.

Like so many others, I struggle daily with balancing my work and my home life. I love my job, but because of the economy we have scaled back from a consulting practice of 11 to 5. And we're still expected to produce the same revenue! So needless to say that there is a lot of pressure to work work work. That's not me. I want to work and think I am a better mommy for balancing my life and being happy, but this situation is stressful. Balance is the key! Needless to say, with #2 on the way, I'm re-evaluating my work situation and exploring other avenues, including possibly starting my own business.

So glad to have found another place where moms are playing the balancing act! ;)

Welcome Katrina! Congrats on expecting #2! Your work situation does sound stressful, so I hope that everything works out the way you'd like! Starting your own biz would be awesome!

How does Julia sleep at night? It helps soooo much if the older child sleeps well by the time the new baby comes. It also looks like your kids and my kids will be about the same difference in age (2 years). That has been really nice for us because ODS adores the baby.

Thanks! Julia is an AWESOME sleeper. She's been sleeping through the night since 9 weeks. Now she practically begs to go to bed. I have to force her to stay up until 7:30 or 8 p.m. most nights. So that's one big check off the list. Our plan is to keep the new baby in a bassonet in our room until Julia is old enough to move to a "big girl bed" in her new room downstairs. But that won't be until after her 2nd birthday. You're right, they'll be about 21 months apart. We were actually trying to get them closer together, but TTC was pretty unsuccessful for us while still breastfeeding.

I'm sure I'll need lots of advice when the arrival of #2 gets closer. Nice to know you've BTDT!! :)

Excellent! I'm so glad she's a great sleeper! Joe is in a toddler bed now. They are 22 months apart and Joe moved to a toddler bed a few months after the baby was born because he started climbing out of his crib at night. I think the main thing is to make sure that as few major changes as possible can be linked to the arrival of the baby. For example, starting midway through my third trimester I had my DH be the one to take care of Joe at night so that he wouldn't suddenly be without Mommy at night when baby arrived. We also made sure to pay lots of attention to Joe and not let ourselves get too distracted by the baby. It has all gone really, really well as you can see here:
