Our DS was put in for a "battlefield promotion" and while I know that means he has done something very brave and courageous according to the criteria for battlefield promotions - I also know from that, and something very small he said, and the fact that he called and had very long conversations with us recently about difficult things, that it also means he was most likely involved in a serious "life and death" situation.

I can't face losing another child.

Molly, your DS and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. You know we are all here whenever you need to "talk".

Oh, Molly.  I can't even BEGIN to imagine how frightening that must be.  My heart is with you ... and with him ... with all of you ... as are my thoughts and prayers.  What a worrisome time. 

I'm not familiar with battlefield promotions, but what a testament to your son and to your parenting that bravery and courage are part of who he is.  You must be very proud!  :o)

As difficult as the conversation must have been to have, it's good that you had it.  I pray there is no need to act from it, but I'm glad you were able to talk about things that needed discussing.
