It's a while since we did one of these, and since some of you would have children recently starting a new school or college year I thought now might be a good time an update on what we are all up to.

DS is currently holidaying in London with his girlfriend, they are also travelling to France and Germany. They will be away 3-4 weeks, not as long as they would have liked but DS wants to go to India in January for a wedding, so they couldn't afford to be away too long. DS's former flatmate is living in London at the moment, so they are catching up with him.

DD is getting used to living in the real world, that is, out of the family home, and still cannot believe the cost of groceries, lol. During the week she had the opportunity to interview people after an awards ceremony at the Sydney Opera House, very scary for her, but a great experience, although she has decided that she could never make a career out of being a journalist.

And DH has made a start with painting the 3rd bedroom, lol, the undercoat went on this morning.

And I am soaking the clothes, furnishings etc that he accidentally smeared paint on. Sigh, I know, don't say it. ;-)

Good idea, Elaine!

We're doing good.  DD is loving her job.  She was home a couple of weeks ago and we stayed up basically all night talking.  This is the second time....and seems to be starting a tradition...lol  It's so fun, though...

DS, DIL and Ava are coming next week.  DH's family has a family get together planned at the farm.  It should be fun...

I finished my taxes that I had gotten an extension on this week.  Writing the check was painful, but at lease it's over!  Thursday and Friday I spent taking applications at the Salvation Army for Christmas assistance.  That is always a humbling experience.  It will make you so thankful for what you have.

I'm playing fantasy football for the first time and just loving it  I'm doing really good.  I'm second in my league in power rankings.

Since it's cooler, I'm hoping to get DH to help in the attic.  We really need to do some cleaning.  Not tomorrow, though....I've got to watch football...lol

Little Rebel is doing great!  He's integrating with Dodger and Kayla just fine.  It's been a work in progress....but is going really good.

Debbie

Rhiannon started Intermediate school in September (grades 6,7,8) and she's loving it.

It was quite a change for her and her friends going from a very small school to a much bigger one where they have to change classrooms for lessons, have several different teachers and wonder of wonders LOCKERS, oh, she was so excited about the locker, I think that's the main reason she was so looking forward to moving schools lol!

She's still in French Immersion and basically all of the 5th graders from her old school are now together in the one class which I am sure helped make the transition easier.

Rhi's joined all sorts of clubs including Cross-Country and they've been practicing runs at recess, the meet for their grade was yesterday and DH and I and went along as volunteers, it was early and cold cold cold!

There were 10 Grade 6 kids running for our school and what looked like a million kids from other schools lol! One of our girls finished 11th and will go on to Board finals next week, one of the boys finished in the top 20 and the others were all around the 90's or 100's. Rhi was 112 with her friend K just behind at 113. That's more or less where they finished last year, neither of them are speed merchants but they enjoy doing it and as K says "I like cross-country because you know there's pretty much always going to be someone slower than you are" lol!

Yesterday was a big day for Miss Rhi, she's been saving up for ages to buy a Wii Fit, and after we picked up the money for some dress-up costumes we sold at a consignment store last week, she finally had enough money, so we went shopping :)

Since then we have basically been in the basement playing with it - it's lots of fun!!

What else? well Curling season has started, only Guy and Rhi are curling this year, our long standing partners for Mixed (Rhi's godparents) are not playing this year and I have to work more so can't play with the Day Ladies, so I just took a Social membership for this year (which is also a lot cheaper!) Guy's already played a few games and Little Rocks starts today.

The job hunt still continues for DH and I. He has joined some friends working on a start-up company that they hope will be eligible for some government funding at some point, although things are on hold there for the moment as one partner's wife has just been diagnosed with breast cancer and the other partner is involved in a legal wrangle over her house renovations - a mess!

Autumn is here, the trees are gorgeous, we're about to close up the pool for the winter and Rhi is planning her Halloween costume, she wants to be a Night Elf Hunter this year (her character from World of Warcraft)she more or less has the costume together, she and DH are working on making a bow and Rhi is going to use the rest of her saved up money to buy a genuine pair of Night Elf ears:
http://www.buycostumes.com/World-of-Warcraft-Night-Elf-Prosthetic-Latex-Kit/34174/ProductDetail.aspx - They look very tall and I think she may have a problem going under low structures with them on lol!

It's good to hear that your DD is loving her job Debbie, and probably a far better option than "basket weaving" lol.

I bet you can hardly wait to see Miss Ava again, I was only thinking this morning that it won't be long and she will be 2! Have fun with the family get together.

Glad to hear that Rebel is still doing well and the introductions are going well too.

I can remember when lockers were a big thing here too Carole, although losing keys were not so much fun. Luckily a spare key had to be supplied to the school office, so it wasn't a major drama if a key was lost or misplaced.

I loved "K's" reason for choosing cross-country, sounds like my kind of girl, lol.

Miss Rhi should look amazing in those ears, yes they certainly are on the large side, you won't miss her coming at all!

I hope your DH finds a suitable job very soon, we have been in that position and it gets you down at times.

Hugs,

Elaine
