Some of you may be aware of "Movember", the time when men grow a moustache to create awareness of and raise money for men's health issues, particularly prostate cancer and depression.

The usual practice is that they begin growing the mo from 1st November and raise money along the way, sometimes ceremoniously shaving if off at the end of November/Movember.

My darling DH has had his mo for 33 years, it was in it's infancy when I met him, and he has always resisted any suggestions I made to remove it. However, one of his "superiors" at work, who happens to be female, has been trying to convince him to shave it as a "reverse Movember" fund raiser. DH was very, very reluctant, and so offered to submit to the razor only if $500 was raised in advance. Not for a moment did he think they would get that amount of money together for just one person. Wrong! In less than two days they had well over $700 and he couldn't back down. It just kept getting bigger, with other areas getting involved and emails being circulated and lots of people wanting to witness this very historic event, so much so that they have had to book a separate room at his workplace for the great unveiling of the upper lip to take place.

DD and I have received special invitations to attend, and the date has been set, next Monday, at lunchtime, so lots of people can get there.

I really am proud of him, I know how attached he is to it (well you know what I mean!) and the money will go to very worthy causes. I'm just not sure he will do the same next year!

Oh yes, he will begin growing it again from Tuesday.

Well, congratulations!!!  LOL  I have actually never heard of "Movember" and all the "mo" business, but I have had men around me with "cookie dusters" and I was none to sorry to see Red shave *his* off when he (finally) got tired of it, so I understand your elation!  :o)  WTG on the $700!!!!  That's amazing!!!  Keep us posted  .... pictures, maybe?  before and after????

LOL, funny how those things backfire on you - you assume there's NO WAY people will meet the conditions you set...and then you're stuck!  Good for him - but it's going to be a shock for you to see him without it.

I just heard of Movember this year - because older ds is taking part this year, in reverse of your dh.  A group of them at the law school are going to grow mustaches.  Should be very interesting - the boys take after their dad and don't grow very good facial hair, LOL.

I've had mine since I was 17, almost 40 years.  The only time I've shaved it off was during wrestling season my senior year of HS - 1971, during AF basic training - May-July 1972 and again during OCS in -2 weeks beginning and end and one weekend a month from May 1984 to August 1985.  I don't like how I look without it, although I've contemplated shaving it off permanently.  I'd wear a beard, but in my work and as HAZMAT Captain and Asst Fire Captain, I have to be able to wear a SCBA.

LOL - that boomeranged quicker than he anticipated. It's all for a very good cause, though, so he must be pretty chuffed!

I was just reading about the Movember movement in the US:

PS: Do we get to see before and after photos?
