Tread.

Let's chat about where we are going this summer. where we have been and where we would like to go.

Anyone can start, tell us all you can about the places you have been and some of the places you want to go to. Tell us about all the neat things to do in the area you live in. We will ask questions and give our take if we have been to some of the places.

Let's make this interesting and fun.

Ok. . .

No vacations planned this summer. The last REAL vacation we went on as a family was to Maui back in 1992.

Last March, I did fly to Hong Kong to meet up with hubby while he was on a business trip and we did go to Singapore and Langkwai Island, Malaysia. It was a treat for me, but still work for hubby.

Here's a list of places we have been on North American soil:

Yellowstone National Park
Zion National Park
Las Vegas
Reno
Disneyland
Maui
Victoria BC (me and some girlfriends back in 1981)
Vancouver, BC
Great Salt Lake
Lot of day trips in our state.

Has anyone been to Disneyland?

In May of 2002, Christmas 2003, July 2005 (for the 50th anniversary), Easter 2006, Christmas 2006 and Easter 2008 we went to Disneyland. A and I had been there back in 1988 and the area was so different. Disneyland itself had not changed much but almost all of the "mom and pop" motels were gone and huge chains stood in their place. Ok. Disneyland had some new rides but for the  most part it was timeless. Indiana Jones was new and it quickly became our favorite ride. Small World was down for repairs but everything else was up and running. California Adventure had been open about a year.We had 5 day hopper passes and 10 days to use them in.

California Adventure has some great rides but the really good ones are fo far apart. Soarin`Over California is really worth the wait in line. It`s great, one of my favorites. California Screamin`is a wonderful roller coaster, you go upside down through Mickey`s head. The Grizzly River Run is also a lot of fun and you will get wet.

Back in 1988 Disney was just building Splash Mountain so 2002 was the first time we got to ride on it and again you will get wet, LOL.

In 2002 and 2003 we stayed at a motel called the Vagabond Inn. It was 2 Disney blocks from Disneyland. Very long blocks. The first time we stayed there it was quite nice but by the time we stayed there at Christmas 2003 it had really gone down hill.

In July 2005 we stayed at Disney`s Paradise Pier Hotel and it was very nice. We had bought a package for the 5oth anniversary and part of the deal was the hotel.

Easter 2006 we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and it was the best place we have stayed. It was lovely and the cast members there could not do enough for us.

For Christmas 2006 we stayed at the Anaheim Plaza Motel, it was a great deal like the Vagabond, but it was really close to the parks.

This last Easter we stayed at our condo, the Peacock Suites and it was very nice but we had to pay for the shuttle to get us back and forth to the parks.

Food in the parks is very expensive and they don`t like you bringing food in. Our favorite restaurant is the Rancho del Zocalo right next to Thunder Mountain. The prices are pretty good and you get a lot of food for the price.

We love Disneyland and hope to get to Disney World some day soon.

Actually, yes, we've been to Disneyland twice. First time was in 1984 before children and then in 1989 when our daughter won a trip at the tender age of 2-1/2. She went back in 2005 with a girlfriend after she returned from her freshman year of college.

We plan to take a day trip to Keystone, CO next month and then in August will spend a weekend across the state visiting relatives when we take our DS back to college.

I live in the Denver area and there is so much to do here... tour the Denver Mint, go to the Zoo or one of the many museums, there are at least 2 botanical gardens in our area, not to mention 2 big amusement parks, several water parks, shopping, theatres, national parks, state parks, numerous free tours (such as Coors, Celestial Seasonings, candy factories, etc.), open space parks perfect for hiking, biking, picnicking, etc., and festivals galore all over the state.
