I have researched and asked a few people about my dog weaving and I am looking for others who may have seen this or know anything about it. By weaving I mean that he rocks back and forth on his front feet, swaying from side to side. He ONLY does this when he is drinking water. He is a 6 month old G Shep and he is rarely left alone for long. I walk him several times a day and we also have playtimes and I limit his training times to short sessions. He has the run of the house except when I have to go to the store and at night, then he is crated. He has 2 adult dogs to play with and I have a 12 yo that plays with him also. I think he is getting enough exercise, but I use to work with horses and sometimes they pick up the habit of weaving when bored and left in their stalls for long periods of time with not enough exercise. Has anyone seen this behavior before? And do you think it it harmful? I have not carried him to his vet yet. One person thought it might be a medical problem. He appears to be a normal, active puppy. A bit hard headed, but we are working on that.

Hi kk107 and Welcome to the Board.  I'm Laura and I'm the furmom to a 14YO dalmatian, Samantha and 3YO lab/mix, Cleo.

I've never heard of this before, nor have I ever seen this behavior with any of my dogs.  Your dog is young, and if he is getting enough exercise then I don't see why it would be a boredom problem.  However, it may be a neurological problem, and only your vet can advise you on that.

I hope that it is just a "habit" that he has....and nothing else.  Please be sure to let us know if you take him to the vet, and what he tell you.
