We've all heard about the poinsettias and possibly the lilies, but most of these I had not heard of, and sadly this isn't even the entire list!  Any of these surprising to anyone?  We just had Bird-of-Paradise in our house from when my MIL passed away - they were sent as sympathy flowers.  Never crossed my mind that they may be dangerous.

  • Autumn Crocus
  • Azaleas
  • Bird-of-Paradise
  • Black locust tree
  • Buckeye tree
  • Buttercup
  • Caladium plant
  • Castor bean
  • Christmas berry
  • Christmas Rose
  • Cowslip
  • Daffodil
  • Day lily
  • Easter lily
  • Elderberry
  • English Ivy
  • Holly
  • Hyacinth
  • Iris
  • Laurels
  • Lily of the valley
  • Mistletoe
  • Morning glory
  • Mustards
  • Narcissus
  • Nightshade
  • Oaks
  • Oleander

Poinsettias are not as toxic as they were once thought to be, they cause GI upset more than anything. Lillies on the other hand (specifically easter lillies) can cause kidney failure (within 12-24 hours of ingestion) if any part of the plant is eaten.
