(Before you read any further, yes, we called the vet immediately, he was quite sure Jake would be fine.)

Decided to have hubby grill some burgers last night, there's this little mom and pop quick shop in town with the best old-fashioned ground beef.  You'll be waaaay ahead of me, ha, but yep, you guessed it.  He made up burgers with a pound of ground beef and THOUGHT he left them far enough away from the edge of the counter....but Jake decided otherwise.  Right about at grill time I heard some noise and DH popped up to check and sure enough, Jake pulled the white meat wrapper with all the burgers onto the floor....totally gone, a full pound of ground beef, probably took 30 seconds to scarf it down.  We knew his favorite food has always been beef, discovered that trying to find a dog food he wanted when we first got him.  I was concerned about pancreatitis, since I've read there are dogs sensitive enough that one very high fat meal and they get it, we even lost a dog partly due to pancreatitis.  At first the vet advised something to make him throw up but we didn't have it in the house, so another call to him ended up with the vet just saying he should be okay either way.  And he is, he didn't even get sick.

Crazy dogs, just nuts.  But his new nickname is cowboy!!!  He had COW last night, lots and lots of COW!!!  Best day of his life, to doubt.

Before I knew much about dogs, we had a black lab, Lady  She would regularly steal butter (and one day almost a whole poung!!) and cheese.  No matter how we would try to keep such "goodies" away from where she could take them, she would always find a way.  I can't tell you how often I would come up for breakfast and ask my Mom where the butter was...she would tell me it was on the table but, nope....the empty butter dish was usually under the livingroom table where Lady had brought it to enjoy her treat.

At the time I didn't know about pancreatitis and since Lady was always find after her escapades, we never really thought about it.

Then again, a few years ago my ^Valentine^ became ill....vomiting and generally lethargic.  DH took her to the vet and, after lots of questions, they determined that she must have eaten some suet that had dripped from my suet feeder.  That little bit of fat made her sick.

Your Jake really something....LOLOL.....

That is a lot of meat for Jake's size and I can't believe he polished it all off in only seconds! I'm glad there weren't any ill side-effects from his feast and am just sorry that your burgers became Jake's dinner!

So glad to hear Jake is ok and had no ill effects from the hamburger. That is so something that Maya would do. She steals food at ANY chance she can get, even grabbed something right out of my hand the other day while I was sitting on the couch snacking. She has also eaten butter from the butter dish too, she table surfs and will counter surf if we forget and leave the chairs out. One day I came home from dropping my dd off at school to find a box of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies and a package of Saltine crackers eaten, they had been on the counter. We did the peroxide thing to induce vomiting since she had eaten chocolate and it had only been half hour at the most when I discovered it. I think Maya and Jake would probably get along really well! LOL! Hey and speaking of cowboys...check this out.....this is Maya....
