Hello, I'm new to I-village, and in need of some advice.

I have a 10 year old beagle "Luke". i've had him since he was 6 weeks old. But he's very anti-soical around people other than me (i live at home and he's even brak at my own parents who i live with). My problem is I recently got engaged and me and my fiancee are plannin on movin into together in our own place in the next month. I know my beagle wont take to him too well.  And i cant leave Luke at my parents house cause he doenst like them much either.  Right now Im torn and dont know what to do.

Luke is in ok health, but has gone down hill somewhat over the past year. He's havin a seizure about every month or 2.  And i havent taken him to the vet for the seizures cause it will cost over $1,000 for them to do test on him.

I dont know what the best option is

Hi Lilangel89108 and Luke! Welcome to the board. Congrats on your engagement! That's awesome!

It can be a little tougher to socialize an older dog but I think you can get Luke to be more comfortable around your fiancee. You can start by having your fiancee give Luke a lot of treats and even have your fiancee walk and feed Luke. That will help Luke realize that you're in charge but so is your fiancee.

It's hard for a lot of people to get treatment for our pets nowadays. I couldn't pay one of my vet bills and my vet suggested care credit. Can you ask your vet about making payments or getting care credit? Can your vet try a medication for Luke without doing the tests?

Keep us updated on Luke when you get a chance, okay?

Welcome!  Pleased to meet you and Luke!

I think Greta's suggestion is very good, and I second it!

My MIL had an epileptic Norwich Terrier, and he lived a long and happy life in spite of his occasional seizures.  He was on phenobarbitol, I think, and as I recall it wasn't very expensive.  Maybe your vet could give you a sample of medication to try on Luke.
