I feel terrible! Panda has been very rough with all the others but I figured they'd work it out. Last night, I woke to a horrible screeching noise and found Panda on top of Kodi biting him badly. I separated them and let them out again this morning to see if everyone (Panda) had a different attitude. Kodi was terrified of him and kept running to me to get picked up which is totally unlike him. I emailed the rescue and said I thought I should bring him back and take a calmer one. I've never, ever returned a pet before but I have to think about my original group. I'm bringing him back this afternoon. I still feel bad. At least he's had his rabies shot so that should make him more adoptable. I wish it had worked out with him.

I am so sorry to hear that Panda is not getting along with your group.  I am sure it is in the best interest of your other ferrets.  I know how you must feel though. Your heart says one thing but your mind says a different thing.  You can say you had truly honest intentions of things working out but like you said you have to think of your original group.  Please don't be too hard on yourself. Perhaps Panda needs to go to a home where there are no other ferrets all ready living there.  I commend you for your efforts and I am sure Panda thanks you for giving him a chance.  Hang in there.

Thank you so much Joan. I appreciate your support. It actually worked out pretty well. The shelter mom said that she had been worried about Panda since he had been the alpha in a cage full of 12 ferrets. She thought that maybe being with my ferrets he would let them be alpha. She said that since he came back and had "anger management issues" she would probably keep him herself. She likes his energy too which is what attracted me to him. She was very understanding and made me feel better about bringing him back.

Anyhow I spent some time with the remaining ferrets at the rescue and came home with a light reddish sable female who I'm calling Sugar Bear. So far she is very gentle and yet she still likes playing chase with my other ferrets. It looks like a much better match. I'll take some pics soon.

Thanks again Joan. It's hard not to feel guilty but I'm sure I did the right thing.

I'm sorry that it didn't work out with Panda. I think that you definitely made the right decision and he is going to another loving home. It's so hard to see your furkids fight like that. I just went through that with my rats and I think I told you that when we first got Simon he was a monster ferret. Keep us updated on Sugar Bear and Pooh and how they adjust to the new home! Good luck and, again, you made the right decision. And it's great that the woman from the shelter is adopting him so you know he's going to a good home.

I do know what you mean but yes you did the right thing for Panda and your ferret family. Glad everything worked out with the shelter mom and she was so great about being understanding. I am sure that put your heart at ease.  Happy to hear you found a better match for your group though!! Wonderful!! Can't wait to see the pics of her. Hope all works out well with the new addition.

PS:

The banner below my animals is my son Richie's band..he is the one on the end at the right.  I am so proud..it seems that yesterday he was just 5 yrs old..and now he's 20 and in a band and has several shows scheduled. If you have a chance check out their music. He gets his love of music from his proud Mother!
