I heard a report on the radio the other day that made perfect sense.  They said that many dogs hate to have coats or other clothing on them because it feels to them like they are being dominated.  The touch of the clothing, particularly on their backs can be very upsetting to an alpha dog.  Boy!  Did that ever hit home!  Skinnie Lynnie has a horrible time in the winter when I try to put her fleece on her!  For the most part, I've given up trying to keep her warm outside and hope she moves fast enough to keep her body temp up.

That reminds me of last winter during the snow storm when I was telling Jess to pee quicker before we both freeze.. She likes to take her sweet time when it's cold out.

I can imagine that clothes aren't comfortable for a lot of dogs too.. Particularly the long haired ones. It just plain LOOKS uncomfortable to have all that long hair bunched up inside a doggy shirt or whatever.

My mothers Rat Terrier hated his shirt (he only has one) until he realized that I only ever put it on him when he was shivering. Then he started getting all happy every time he saw it.. I don't think he uses it at all anymore now that they're living in Arizona instead of Seattle though.

Makes sense to me!  Spencer could care less about clothes though but I don't consider him overly alpha although he does growl at Buzz all the time.

I think the domination theory works for alpha dogs.

There are special coats that they have for dogs that are afraid of thunderstorms and also another type that some trainers use that have straps where you can bind the coat really tight around the dog to help them cope with anxiety issues (it's suppose to offer them comfort). Those would be exceptions, I guess ... but
only if they are effective.

Really interesting!  Thanks for sharing!

Sue you said there is a coat for dogs afraid of thunderstorms, I was interested because Peco is terrible when one starts.  Where do you get one at?  Are they expensive?

You were right about Vozzy being a character!!  He loves kids and loves everyone he meets.  He is very outgoing.  In puppy class he goes to anyone.  I found out he is highly food motivated.  Is seems lately he is easier to train.  He learned to use the bells to go outside and do is business.  He learned "down" really fast in class with a treat.  I am teaching him to "come" so we play a game where he runs between my son and me (with treats), and that sure does wear him out!  He also loves to run and run and run!!!  He hates being cold and sleeps under covers.  He's great in the car.  He can be funny, the other day I was trying to teach our older dog to "ring the bell" to go out and Vozzy walked over and rang the bell with a sigh like "I'll do it, lets get this over with!"
