Hi, I haven't been around in awhile. Just hiding and dealing with life's trials. (Hey, Rena, Patrick and everyone else!) So let's start off with.....fear!
It's Halloween, my friend is moving and she is having a bad time of it. Three cats doesn't make it easier. I'm not there to help because I am just too physically sick to be anywhere. I get an 8PM call from her: the cats got out of the house and are missing. She is crying and completely out of it. I felt horrible. Especially because I had to be a little mean with her. There was no time to indulge in flipping out-the cats needed to be found in a hurry. So after a very short "I feel bad for you", I was a little rough with her, outlining possible options. She got off the phone quickly, not sounding very happy with my attitude which stressed urgency.
Good news! Two hours later all three cats were located and safe again. Even I was forgiven for my abruptness. Truth is that when I got off the phone with her, I broke down in tears and prayed to God that they would be found. And safe: it is Halloween and we all know the dangers of this time of year. Time was important.
A lesson from the story: if you are moving, be prepared on dealing with your cats. When I last moved, I had a safe room, with food, litter, toys and a friend to watch over the babies. Having them stay at a friend's house or boarding are also safe options. You just can't leave your cats where bad things can happen. Moving is tough enough for our little ones.
Sammy, my 2 year old bundle of energy brings laughter and wonder to me and my friends. First-she is a junk food addict! Nothing major, I assure you. But if you bring out the chips or better yet the cheese doodles, she makes her move. She doesn't eat them, but she must lick off one or two. Dip is optional. (kidding!) Strange things our cats love to taste. Cracks my friends up. Me too.
Spelling-my cat loves to play. If I use the word, she immediately comes out to our playing area, stares at me and meows. It is laser light time. Or wand time. Or catch, a piece of paper rolled into a ball shape. She loves playing. So much so that I started to spell "play" to explain this to new friends. But cats are smart, now when I spell "play" she goes to the play area, stares and meows! I tell my friends she can spell and they are amazed. Truth is the cadence of spelling is what gets her: I could spell anything and she would respond. It's just more fun and amazes people to have them think she can actually spell!
But, and the point of writing this, is that cats are precious, make us laugh, and, yes, truly amaze us. Shoot! She is climbing on the TV-let me see what happens when I spell, "No!"
I'm so glad your friend found her cats! You're absolutely right about moving, it's a rough time and a good time for cats to slip out if they aren't watched carefully.
That is too funny about the junk food and the spelling. LOL! Smart cat!

You don't know the half of it: my Sammy, she bullies me! There is a special play are and when she wants to play, she does the stare, the trilling, followed by smacking me with her paw. She loves games and she know she can get away with murder because she is cute and she knows I love her.
BTW-update on my friend who moved. I will be hearing from her alot until she moves again. She moved in with her dad who lives in a trailer park. She called 2:30AM, lost cat, her dad left the door open. Cat was found, but she is living with a functional alcoholic in my opinion and it will get worse. Poor girl and poor cats.
I will try and share Sammy stories more often and truthfully every day is a Sammy story. She reminds me of the movie Marley. She is always into something and always challenging me. 3AM now and I her little eyes watching me, ready to attack her next victim: me. A rascal is what she is.
My Slinky smacks me with her paw too! She also puts her paw on the hand of guests, who think she is being affectionate -- but actually this is what she does when she's getting feisty. ;)
Good luck to your friend with her cat. That is a difficult situation -- always hard for animals to be in a dysfunctional situation like that. I used to work on a domestic violence hotline and felt so terrible for some of the animals in those situations.

Hi John, it's great to hear from you. No worries, sometimes life seems to overwhelm us and we need to take time out. I've been there and done that.
Thankfully, your friend's kitties got home safe and sound. I can't even imagine the fear and anxiety that I would go through if Sammy or Misha ever got outside. Sometimes, just thinking about their getting outside on their own causes me some anxiety.
I am delighted to hear that your Sammy continues to bring you lots of joy and laughter. Good grief! I remember your posts when Sammy was just a wee kitten and it's hard to believe that she is 2 years old.
LOl....My Misha doesn't go after junk food per se, but she is often on the arm of my chair, not quite begging, but certainly letting me know that she wants a taste of my blueberry muffin. She gets a little more energetic if I'm cheating on my diabetic diet and having a small piece of chocolate cake.
LOl...Here's a little video of my princess doing her thing about herdinner.
I used some of my airmiles points to get a digital camera and discovered that it took movies.
John, you are so right, our kitties are indeed precious. Whenever my two miscreants purr, meow, and show affection, I can't help but offer a prayer of thanks to the Creator for blessing me with Sammy and Misha.
