Have Rescued 2 Chow Chows!
HI-
I had known for a while there was greyhound rescue. When my Chow died in 1995, I was devastated, she was only 6. Then I learned of a Chow rescue. I applied and adopted a wonderful Chow girl who passed away almost 4 yrs ago. I began to volunteer for that rescue group, and became a "foster mom" to a wonderful Chow boy. I fell in love and there was NO WAY I would allow anyone to adopt him except myself. SO I adopted him in 1998. He is another wonderful dog.
Each had issues in their own way, but both were house trained, through the chewing phase, non destructive, etc. The female did not like when anyone sneezed or coughed & was a poor eater. The male is afraid of thunder & loud noises. He was pulled from Animal Control in NYC when he was 8 months old, so who knows what the previous owners did to him.
Both were wonderful experiences. Since I love Chows, I have met a friend who has a huge Chow rescue, and I will send her donations, and things she can use which I obtain from the Operating Room where I work. They are always discarding coban (vet wrap), and I know she can use it, or pass it on to some other rescue.
I always tell people, unless they want to show in confirmation, if they want a pure bred dog, just wait until April or May, when the shelters & rescues are full of "Christmas puppies"...by that time the dogs are usually house trained.
BTW, if anyone has a rescue, and could use vet wrap, contact me. I have about 20 rolls. It is unsterile as one of the surgeons does not like this brand, so we throw it off of the sterile field prior to the patient entering the room. It is clean, as I would never brings anything home which had the potential of being dirty.
Hugs,
