running out of options to help these cat
so here is the story...
my sister has had 2 female cats for roughly 7 years. she has recently gone through a divorce and moved back into our parents house since about March i believe. I'm living here too with my boyfriend and our 1 year old and i'm due to have another baby next month and my boyfriend will be leaving for the military very soon after. my parents have 2 dogs, and my cat, Elliott, is here with us as well until my boyfriend is back and we can move out. Elliott was with me in college and only came here when i did and i still take care of him except for the litter box because of the pregnancy.
My sister is horribly neglectful to her 2 cats. She has been "living" in the basement (really she comes home to shower and eat and then leaves again) most of the time she forgets to feed her cats while she IS here so she makes my mom do it. she rarely cleans the litter box so they go all over the floors. my mom and her have fought and fought and fought over this lack of care for months! She did finally move out this week...but of course with a friend who will not take the cats. none of her friends would let her move in with the cats (btw she is almost 30, has bad credit, lives and wastes her unemployment while she claims to go to school but she sleeps through it every day) so she moved out and left the cats here. our mom told her if she leaves the cats then they become HER cats to do with them what she pleases which WILL be getting rid of them.
we just can't keep them here... for one thing one of the cats tries to force dominance over my cat and attacks him A LOT and he is declawed...her cat is not. so he's been injured. another thing is with this going on its unsafe for my baby to be around her. we already have the other animals and i'm the only one thats at home all day every day and i just CANNOT take care of soon to be 2 small babies, 3 cats, and 2 dogs. the dogs sleep most of the day and all i have to do is open a door to let them in and out. my cat is very independent. her cats are so starved for attention for being in the basement so much that they are just all over me and the baby all the time. and have had a tendency to bite at and claw at the baby.
so like i said she moved out...my parents went down to the basement to clean up and it was FILTHY!!!! dishes, food, trash, empty cat food cans.....and the worst, when she claimed to be emptying the litter boxes she was scooping the poop into one big trashbag and just left it there...it was so full and heavy my mom had to call my dad down to lift it!
we've been trying for WEEKS to find a home for these cats...no one will take them. we've been calling shelters...no kill and humane societies and they are all full, the humane societies can only hold up to 3 days before killing them. they also all want the shot records which of course we dont have.
our last option seems to be taking them to my boyfriend's family farm, which is basically just a lot of land and a lot of cows. no people no shelter. and just letting them loose...but this breaks our hearts. we really are animal loving people and this is tearing us up but we dont know what else to do. they really deserve so much better. and my sister wont even try to help looking becasue she said she DID find them a good home. so she thinks just dumping them on us to take responsibility for them is finding them a home. it makes me sick.
any experience with letting adult cats out as farm cats? or anything at all?
