She was in the shelter, a kill one, last Saturday so we busted her out :) We weren't going to take another one in but the rescue is full so we had no choice and of course, we'd do the right thing. She is 12 yo and was in pretty bad shape. Her owner passed and probably couldn't take of her but she was well loved because her disposition is fantastic!

Along with the 12 yo we already have had for 2 yrs, I hope this one is more adoptable due to her loving nature. I can't have two that may fall through the cracks due to age :(

Her name is Chewie and we are working on some health issues. Wish us luck!

Hi
I've just taken on my first foster. But I think I'm going to be one of those "foster failures" you hear about. This dog is wonderful and fits into our family perfectly and of course I'm hoping that we can keep him. He also has health problems that I'm hoping the rescue we are working with can help us with. It's the only thing that is stopping me from adopting him out right. I don't think we can afford the meds and surgery he'd need if they didn't.I'm just hoping it will all work out.
Good luck with your new foster...

Hi katnicmom and welcome to the board! So glad to hear you are fostering! We have been fostering/rescuing pugs for two different area rescues for 4 years now. Do you do a specific breed or shelter foster? I've only had one foster failure in all this time, back in 2005. He was my 4th foster and it was love at 1st sight :) Since then, I've probably fostered (off and on) 20-25 pugs from anywhere from 3 days to 3 months. The longest is Smokie at 2 yrs (this December) due to him being a "senior" :(

When we don't foster, we do "jail" break-outs, home visits, transportation, owner surrenders, and other misc events and stuff for the rescue - basically just show our support :) I'm sure the rescue will get your foster all sorted out for adoption. Again, welcome :)

Hi jettidog
Sounds like you are doing some pretty important work with those pugs! How many dogs do you have at one time? Do you have any that are your own?
I have a soft spot for hounds! The dog I'm fostering right now is a basset and he is wonderful. It's a long story but I was going to adopt him outright. He was down south, I'm in the northeast. He has some long term medical issues (glaucoma)that I just don't know if I can financially handle on my own although my vet's office is being great and trying to help me so that I CAN afford to adopt him. The rescue originally said they'd help but I'm getting the sense they won't cover all that this is going to entail i.e. surgery to remove the eye. I already feel like he has bonded to us, me in particular, and I just can't uproot him again. He's been through alot and he is a sweet and gentle soul who deserves a family to love him. If he does stay I really can't take in another dog ( I also have a young basset mix female)but I'm hoping to either volunteer for a local shelter or do some other volunteer work for the basset rescue in our area.
Thanks for the welcome!

We have 4 pugs of our own and currently have 2 fosters. Normally I would only have 1 foster at a time but this new foster was taken in on an emergency basis from a kill shelter. Unfortunately, all of our foster homes are to the hilt right now - we are at crisis level :(

That is interesting about your rescue. Our policy is to make sure the pugs are totally up to par health-wise, incl micro-chipping, during fostering for placement and we don't allow adoption, even to the foster family, until they have all medical issues are resolved (unless it's a chronic condition that the foster adopter is willing to take on). For example, my newest foster has already had surgery on both back paw pads, gotten UTD on shots, is being treated for severe ear infections, is on 3 diff antibiotics, and has been microchipped since I got her on last Saturday. We don't plan of failing with her but she has to be ready for adoption at any minute. Sounds like yours might be taking a little bit of advantage of you b/c of the bonding? I wonder what their policy is although I know all rescue groups are hurting financially right now.
