I know you're probably bored to tears about my chicken/sheltie stories but having both the chickens and the shelties in the house is keeping my life interesting -

I've got 2 week old peeps in the house and I'm trying to get Gracie and Bud used to them. I'm pretty sure Bud would just as soon eat them as be nice to them but he's behaving while I'm around (and the baby gate is up when I'm not). I've been taking the chicks out of their brooder and handling them a lot so they're used to me too and letting Gracie sniff them while I'm holding them. She's started giving each one a little lick when I show them to her. They look at her like they're trying to figure it out. I'm sure they think she's some sort of huge, slobbery chicken. I wish I could get a pic but I have my hands full with the chicks and trying to watch Gracie too. It's so durn cute.

The roosters who live in thier coop outside are funny too. They're used to me and are getting used to the dogs too. They don't so much run from the dogs anymore. In fact they follow me and the shelties around. Yesterday, we were going through a gate and I guess Bud was blocking the chickens. One of the chickens stopped and lifted his little foot and gave Bud a kick in the pants. It was hilarious! Of course, the chicken is too small to hurt Bud and Bud barely felt it but he turned around and gave the rooster a small woof to remind him that he wasn't in charge. I guess I need to carry my camera at all times. I keep missing some funny pics.

That is hilarious!  I can never get tired of Sheltie/Chicken stories!  Bud and/or Emmy would have snatched a chick out of my hands in no time flat!  There is just never going to be love between my dogs and small critters.  I hope you'll be able to get some pics.  Maybe your DH can stand by with the camera when you do these chicken things.

I got lucky with the shelties. They're really pretty good with other animals but that may be part of their breed. And a cat or squirrel doesn't stand a chance in our yard. I had a pet rabbit so maybe that's why they(Gracie) don't chase the wild rabbits very much. And for some reason they don't really care about my ferrets. I bet Emmy would have a field day with the ferrets.

I'll have to see if dh would do the camera thing. He doesn't usually get home from work until very late. He takes pretty good pics too so I'll see if I can talk him into it.

Here are a couple of pics of Gracie and the chickens. I couldn't catch her licking them but I'm not done trying.
