My cat is nearly 15 yrs old and for the last couple months she has been peeing outside the litter box.  It seems to be more of a perception problem.  Its not everytime and almost never poop.  I bought a new box in case it was a smell issue with the older one.  Non-clumping litter, changed at least weekly.  We had a second cat that shared the box and we never had this problem.  The second cat ran away a month or 2 before the problem started.  The only other change was that at her insistance she gets canned food once per day and dry food available 24/7.  Started the canned when it appeared she could no longer eat the dry food.  She has lost alot of hair, not bald, just the longer fur.  I attributed that to a pre-existing allergy to fleas.  I need to get this figured out quickly - my house smells terrible!

Please have this cat checked out by the veterinarian. At age 15, she may be having kidney, thyroid or even diabetes issues that prompt increased urination so she just can't make it to the box on time.

best,
amy

Hi and welcome to the board. Please come back and let us know how your cat is doing after the Vet visit.   Best of luck to you and to her.   My oldest is 15 and I know how hard it is to watch them getting older and not getting around the way they used to.
