I too am very sorry for your loss. I've had to make this decision far too many times and it is always hard. I know your kitty is thankful though that you were there. Hugs to you.
The same thing happened with one of my dogs, Blackie, and we had to have him put to sleep. First of off let me tell you it is not painful nor does it hurt. I was there when Blackie was put to sleep but not everyone can do that. But it is very calm and peaceful. Your cat knew that you loved her so don't worry about that. Remember Tigger is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge with my Blackie, who loved cats, waiting for their owners to join them.
