My cat, Sherman, is one year old and I love him to death!!! I live alone with just him, but my boyfriend wants me to move in with him. Unfortunately my b-friend is severely allergic to cats - his throat closes up and cannot breathe.

Does anyone have any advice on what my options are for dealing with this? I love Sherman so much I don't really know if I can handle giving him up.

Another question, how well do cats adjust to a new home. This may sound stupid, but will he adapt OK? will he miss me? will he even know the difference?

I hate having to choose between my cat and my boyfriend. Any advice would help me SOOOO much!!

Hi there,
I would first recommend your boyfriend to see his doctor. There are medications for such allergies. :) If they work then you could all live together happily. I really encourage this, as a life without an animal is no way to live!! If he won't see his doctor then I would suggest taking your cat to the Vet and see if there is possibly anything the vet could give the kitty to maker him less of an allergen. Goodluck!!

I am sorry to hear about your dilema (((hugs))). It sounds like your bf is highly allergic and I really don't think that allergy meds will work (but of course it wouldn't hurt to ask). Cats do not like change very much, but with proper adjustment to a new home (i.e. being allowed to come out on their own and not being forced to socialize right away) they do fine. Might one of your friends be able to take Sherman? This way you could still visit him and see for yourself that he is fine. This is such a tough decision. Please let us know what you decide. We are here for you (((hugs))).
