What is your opinion on the article below? Should lessons be mandatory? What benefits or disadvantages do you see with this ruling?

Sex education should be abstanance only with a Christian perspective to teach family values and clean living. Do they teach sex in Australia with kangaroo pictures????

Has it ever crossed your mind Heather, that not all the worlds population is Christian.... How do you suppose your Christian perspective will go down with all the other religions in the world that you have disregarded.

.....and bombarding everyone with one option is not the way to go, in my opinion.

Oh, Glad you learnt something from the Kangaroo pics.... You'd be surprised what one can learn from being open minded and no to mention observing the Kangaroos in their backyard ;P ..... creative little creatures.

For the point of view in the article that it's the teenagers parents who should have the duty to inform them about sex, that would be all well and good if the parents were going to pay all the costs involved when their teenager ends up pregnant. Instead, it's often the taxpayers who are footing that bill. If the taxpayers are going to pay, then they have the right to ensure that those teenagers are at least minimally informed. It's kind of how we have compulsory education, society as a whole suffers when children aren't educated.

In my personal opinion: (see how much better that sounds Heather??)

I have no problem with the basic unit of "sex ed" that most of us got at some point in school. Basic facts and safety information.

However i think a full year is excessive. I'd personally prefer that the educational system focus more on it's primary purpose of educating the next generation.
