In a closely watched race that ran late into the night Tuesday, voters in Maine repealed a recent law that legalized same-sex marriage in the state. During hours of vote counting, the two sides kept within one percentage point of each other. But opponents of the law finally broke away, holding on to 53 percent of the vote with 87 percent of the state's precincts reporting. Turnout was higher than expected, reaching 50 percent of the state's electorate, a solid 15 percent above the projected number. Elsewhere on the ballot, voters approved expanding the use of medical marijuana and shot down a measure that would allow the government to increase taxes.

So Maine voters essentially think it's okay to have more folks using marijuana for medical reasons, but not for two people who love each other to wed if they're of the same gender? Your thoughts?

First of all, I just watched a show on Encino County in California. They are the most prominent marijuana growing county in the country. They were holding, showing, and talking about pot being the crop that fueled the economy in that town. They grow just enough to be within the legal limit. And when the press spoke to the government about it, they basically turned their shoulder. Didn't say much. In my opinion, the government already has a hand in the marijuana trade and they push getting laws passed so that it is no longer illegal.

This being said, same sex marriage has no benefit for the government.

And secondly, in my opinion, same sex marriage, and homosexuality still scares a lot of people. Homosexuals have come a long way through the years, but they are not fully embraced and accepted. Most people believe that marriage is that between a man and a woman. It is a tradition; it is what people believe as "Godly". Accepting same sex marriage would be accepting change. And change scares people.
