Ugh, I think grandma showers are one of the worst ideas I have heard.

I was invited to one earlier this year (for a coworker). I bought the grandmother a gift (a really cool crafts book with various baby/kid things she could make for her grandchild because I knew the grandmother-to-be was very artsy-craftsy). Everyone else bought typical baby gifts for the shower so I felt like I got it wrong, but whatever. My coworker (the GTB) seemed to LOVE it so I didn't mind.

As it turned out though, her grandchild wound up dying shortly before birth, what a mess and talk about awkward in the workplace :-(

That's too bad the baby died.

MAybe that's why pregnancies and everything it involves should be a private matter. You never know what might happen. Had a boss one time who was pregnant, then lost her baby soon after... people would come in and say how's your baby... not a good situation.

Yep, ITA.  That sort of happened recently in my office too.  One of the supervisors is 37 and after years of TTC, she had her first child a year and a half ago.  She became pregnant again this year and waited until after the first trimester to announce it to our entire organization at a staff meeting.  Two weeks later, she lost the baby.  Talk about awkward :-/
