Today my husband and I went to look for a new couch at a small furniture store and what walked in, but an incredibly smug pregnant woman hand in hand with her protective baseball cap wearing boyfriend/partner/husband/father of the baby/babydaddy whatever they call them sperm donors these days)

I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and it's hard for me to put into words, because you really had to be there. But there was something in her WAY. She just seemed to walk into the store, right down the centre as if she was walking the red carpet at the Academy awards. She had an air about her that said "LOOK AT ME...please?" and she walked slowly around and then walked out again. Of course, two salespeople HAD to stop her and cater to her need for attention, and ask the due date bla bla bla. It was funny because she really only looked like she had the tiniest baby bump, but when asked about her pregnancy I watched her place her hands protectively on her stomach the way you see women do when they are huge (and probably need to hold their stomach that way) it's like she's practicing the preggo stance, or the preggo belly hold.

anyways, no one has to comment on this, it's kind of silly that I even noticed it, but for some reason this woman really made herself get noticed and I can't put my finger on how, I mean it was amazing really.

on a side note, while my husband and I were looking at this one particular leather couch, some toddler who probably just learned to walk wondered over and put his arms across the couch. His mom came running to get him right away and didn't look at us with the "Isn't he adorable?" look, so we actually DID think the whole thing was kind of cute in a funny way, UNTIL we noticed the drool on the couch left after the toddler was carried away...sigh...why do they even let those things out in public?

yea I know I'm the meanest beotch in town! But I'm not the only one. At another store we went to today, there was a sternly worded sign on the furniture asking parents to PLEASE not permit their children to touch the furniture! lol

UGH! You're definitely not alone scoobeedu. I will NEVER understand how so many parents allow themselves to get SO utterly desensitized to their kids, that they think it's "no biggie" for their child to drool on an expensive piece of furniture in a showroom. That whole kids-will-be-kids mindset annoys me AND costs businesses money a lot of the time...and I just think it is not acceptable. Seriously. If they were shopping for a couch and a 30 year old woman came and sat on it and sneezed leaving a trail of snot on the couch...would they be ok with that? Hell no.

It's not just furniture stores; parents allow their kids to run rampant EVERYWHERE these days.  At the grocery store, I see parents allow their kids to grab at all the produce and try to eat it and whatnot.  As for preggos sporting their "baby bumps", that is getting so old.  Yeah, you're knocked up, get over yourself PLEASE.

Back when we were kids, I remember shopping for furniture once with our parents and we wanted to sit on the couches but our mom said "No, those are on display, you're not supposed to sit on them".  I remember growing up thinking that stores like that (and any store that had fragile/breakable items, like Hallmark or Things Remembered) were "look, don't touch" stores.  That concept is obviously totally lost on today's children.

There's a store in our town that sells bulk olive oils and other gourmet things and they have a sign on their door that says "Children over the age of 13 may come in, otherwise, no children allowed in store".  LMAO!!

I had a boss like that once, she generally didn't come out of her office unless she wanted to have customers admire and fawn over her condition. It was ridiculous.

As for the kids there is a sign is my vets office that is just perfect.

I agree folks ought to consider disciplining their children. I used to sell appliances and this one woman was outraged when i asked her to pay for a $800 item her 14 year old son had destroyed. She even went so far as to say he didn't do it and we were lying! We just pulled out the security tape, so she shut up pretty quick.

I find these women annoying at the very least. Oh wow! You're PG, big deal. And I really don't get why others care & cater to them. I actually enjoy how perplexed they get when I refuse to ask all the questions. They love to talk about "IT" & I'm like that's nice & start looking around for an escape route. What I'd love to say is I'm SO glad its you & NOT ME (huge smile on my face)! Maybe its the hormonal changes, but its like so many women become this one dimensional person. They can only focus on being PG & world should be in awe. Once they have the little precious, things don't get any better. They see everything the baby/child does as cute. Honestly, baby drool on a couch is gross. Its almost like the world is suppose to just ignore the little mishaps. Of course, our society is very child focused anyway.
