I have a first date lined up for Friday with a guy I met online. The thing is I have had the cold from hell, and it's still just as bad as it has been. He asked me out last Saturday, and I had already been sick for over a week, so I thought there was no way I would still be sick this Friday. But today I feel just as crappy as I did before. I haven't even mentioned to him that I'm sick, so I'm afraid if I cancel the date he's going to think it's just a made up excuse.

Should I wait and see how I feel Friday morning? I may be feeling better by then. Should I cancel now? Should I just go anyway? I'm not unwilling to go, since I've still been working and going on with my life out of necessity, but I sort of feel like it would be rude to show up hoarse and coughing. What should I do?!

Basically treat him the same as you'd treat a friend in this situation. Tell him now that you've been feeling bad and see what he'd like to do. That gives him the opportunity to cancel and have time to possibly schedule another date, or to tell you he's willing to wait and see how you're feeling last minute.

I would say, "hey I've been getting over an illness and I'm not sure if I'll be able to make our date on Friday, I'll text/Email/call you in the morning and let you know what's going on. I'd still like to do something though, and if Friday doesn't work, do you have plans for Saturday (or whenever)?"

If you have to cancel because of illness that's totally okay, but you should definitely give him a day when you will be able to go out again. That way he knows you're still interested. I understand Friday morning has come, sorry for not responding earlier - Hope you are feeling well enough to go?

Ok, I went to the doctor and got some prescription cough medicine which helps a lot, and it's bronchitis so I'm not contagious. I did let him know that I've been fighting off a cough and he still wanted to get together Friday, so I think everything should be fine. Thanks :)
