Dealing with In-Laws

With all that I have been through and hear from others, I plan to be a good MIL.

I want my kids to grow up and be independent.  I am doing my job to raise them right and I will take comfort in letting them live their lives.  I will not meddle in my children and their spouses choices and lives.

My husband and I are looking forward to our empty nest years and have plans and lives of our own to lead.  But I will be there to babysit and enjoy my grandchildren as my children need me too.

I will always remember the drama and hurt that has fallen on me from members of my family and my husbands and I refuse to ever have my children feel that way.  i want my SIL and DIL to be happy and feel like that have good inlaws in my husband and myself.

Good luck. Truly. All you can do is your best. It is all a matter of perspective and expectations. There is no way to know how it will go until it starts going. Mine could be worse and I try to remember that. I know I am blessed with absence rather than meddling.
