Divorced Moms

It snowed a couple inches here, then we got sleet.  They're trying to plow the roads, but it's useless without salt.  And tonight we're supposed to get freezing rain.

I hope everyone else is keeping warm.

I tried to see if I was eligible for some sort of unemployment benefits, but when I called them, they said that I was not eligible because I had not worked since June. I told them they were nuts because I have been working full time all along. My employer just has not reported ANY of my earnings since June - so I am stuck. I think I am more financially snowed in than anything else.

I really love the work that I do and I enjoy working with my co-workers a lot, too. It's really a good group of people and we work well together. It's just some of the management's decisions that I am really having problems with - and I am "Mr. Owner's" Administrative Asst. They are more profit oriented than employee concerned. I believe you have to have a balance of both to make things work. For the most part I get along well with him & his wife, and we work really well together. I know that I am lucky to even have a job (after unemployment for about a year)- so I REALLY AM THANKFUL for being able to work. What can you do? When you are the only one providing for the family and you don't have the cushion of a spouse's income, well you know how it goes.

If we get the same ice storm that you are talking about - and we ARE supposed to - then "Mr. Worth Millions" may just close us down again. Don't get me wrong - I am not coveting what HE is financially worth. I just want to be able to earn my OWN way to provide for MY family.

It would be nice if others would just recognize what us single Moms really have to deal with (all aspects). Maybe we can push Congress for Single Working Mom's Day - everyone else has a holiday :-) Oh, well, so far the boss hasn't called me this morning - I guess maybe I will get to work today (hooray!!!!) - at least until the storm hits and he possibly closes early.

We're closed, again, but I'm lucky..... salary!!!!!!  Though I DID hitch a ride with a friend who's got 4-wheel drive, and since I'm stuck here until HE'S done at work, I've been calling co-workers to see if there's things I can do for them.  At least I'm staying busy. 

The roads are decent (we usually don't salt in the south.... we sand if anything.....)  but the parkign lot here at work wasn't touched.  It's supposed to freeze again.  They SAY we'll be open usual hours, but I'll tell ya, there's no way I'M venturing into this parking lot before 10AM!

I like the Single Mom's Day idea!  No one realizes how hard it is to be a single parent!!!!  That is, until you do it yourself!
