After a lot of consideration and research, I got a dog. Partly for companionship and partly for protection.

He's a half lab/half rottweiler mix and a year old. I got him at the humane society with the thought that I saved his life and maybe someday he would save mine.

I dont know why I'm posting this here except to say that I am feeling better having him here. I dont know why, maybe cuz I finally feel like something with some power has my back and is in my home instead of trying to call the police or neighbors.

Anyway... :)

P.S. I need help coming up with a name for him. Right now his name is Skye, which I think is so NOT his personality.

I love the name Skye...it's seems so empowering...positive.
Sounds like a strong, and powerful name...your Protector...he is such a sweet-heart.
With him the "Skye's" the limit!

Aw he is cute! I am very proud of you for adopting a homeless pet! I am an animal rescue volunteer, so I love it when people adopt. It's the right thing to do, after all America still kills MILLIONS of healthy dogs and cats each year because there is simply no space for them.

I notice he does not have an ID tag on him in that photo. If he gets lost this will increase the chances of him getting returned to you.

I have a free dog training DVD if you would like it. I'd need your address: email me at skigirl_29@yahoo.com.

I love having my dog. I live alone and if there's any creepy noises outside or someone pulls in the driveway, she'll bark and let me know! She'll even bark at creepy men walking on my sidewalk (she sits in her chair and looks out the window). Besides that, she's quite friendly.

Is your goal to have him just bark to alert you of stuff? Or do you want him to "protect" you in other ways?

I've always like Meatball as a dog name, but it has to have the right personality to be called Meatball! Usually good for bulldog or something squatty.

Here's some names I like too:

Sammie
Seamus
Vinnie
Reno
Mike
Miko
Tex
