With the holidays on the horizon, it's an especially difficult time to be estranged from your loved ones. Who do you miss most at the holidays? How do you cope? Do your kids miss your estranged family?

No kids so that isn't an issue but I do miss my brothers (we aren't exactly estranges but relationships are strained a little at present) but neither of them will travel to Ohio for the holidays. Have ot say I don't blame them... the weather here is too unpredictable!

Phone calls is our solution...

I miss my extended family most, my great aunts, great uncles, cousins, etc. We had very happy times when we all would get together, but the family members who apparently held the key to making such gatherings possible have passed away, so we don't ever see each other now. Coping is easy since this has been the norm for quite a long time, and my kids haven't ever met them so they don't know what they're missing.

I miss my 19 year old niece.

My ex husband and I raised her from ages 7 to 16, when she went to live with her mother.

She took our divorce very hard and to keep peace in her family (she is the daughter of my ex husbands sister) she does not call or visit me.  I send her gifts and cards with a fake name and address on them.

I feel as if I have  lost a daughter, and hope that one day soon I can have her in my life again.  I miss her terribly, but I stay out of her life since it would only hurt her if her family found out that she spends time with me.
