Our party wound up being a TON of fun!
I've been sick the past several days with bad cold/sinus problems, and DH thought we should cancel our Halloween get-together but we already invited people, and bought tons of alcohol & food, etc. So we went ahead with our plans. We wound up having a pretty full house...about 20 guests and 14-15 stayed the whole evening! I felt very good because a couple of my coworkers who were also stopping by other parties stayed at ours instead, or left and came back within 1 hr because they said ours was better ;-D
I wound up dressing up as Amy Winehouse! LOL I ratted up the top of my long black witch wig, secured it with a clip, and tied a do-rag around the whole thing. The dramatic eye makeup & bright lipstick was easy. My friend J is an artist and he drew some of Amy's tattoos on my arms. If you know a lot about Amy W, you might know she has a tattoo of a pocket that says "Blake's" (her now-ex Blake Fielder-Civil). So I drew the same tattoo on my chest with DH's name LOL. I already had a Fred Perry polo but I wound up wearing a different polo that was more fitted and revealing because it just looked more like what she wears. Then a pair of dark jeans, several bracelets, HUGE silver earrings, and leopard ballet flats. I decided to do this (instead of just wearing my witch outfit from work on Friday) about 15 min before our party but it turned out great. My scratchy voice from being sick totally sounds like a smoker's voice and several people thought I was doing it on purpose LMAO!
It was just a really great time. Our punch was a big hit with everyone and we had tons of snacks etc. We watched this TERRIBLE low budget horror flick from 1987, called "Tales from the Quadead Zone". We must have played the DVD 5 times because everyone was wanting to see it again. There were tons of crazy fun little things that happened, of course I won't go into detail on all of it but suffice it to say a great time was had!
We had 10X more trick or treaters than last year, too. There were some funny kids. We gave out (prepackaged of course!) popcorn balls and Halloween pencils. A couple of teenagers came really late and there were 4 of them but we just had 2 popcorn balls left. DH told them this and was about to offer the other 2 some candy but they walked off and kicked over some of our decorations in the yard! DH and like 3 of his friends and my coworker-friend P went out front and told the kids to come back immediately and pick the stuff up - and 3 of them did, except one of them ran off super fast like he was afraid. It was pretty funny but we were concerned they might vandalize us later in the night (they didn't). Another bonus after that happened was meeting our new neighbors (the ones I thought I may have offended by cursing outside really loudly one day). They were out on their porch and saw the whole thing go down so they came over to ask about it. Turns out I worked with the woman briefly years ago and she and her husband are pretty cool, they seem like they will be great neighbors because they are around our age and not too snooty and not too trashy (for lack of a better word). Nice!
Some of the costumes at our house this year were pretty fun IMO. In addition to Amy Winehouse and "Dude" from the Big Lebowksi (DH and I)...we had Twister girl, Unemployed Harry Potter, Jon & Kate without their 8 (hilarious because my coworker friend E and her husband already look almost exactly like Jon & Kate anyway but really went all out with their clothes, hair, mannerisms, etc)...2 pirates, police officer, vampire, Scottish guy in kilt, Michelle Obama, Jay & Silent Bob, Steven Seagal, 1960's activist, and I think that's it :-)
