Hi,

I don't know how to start. I met my guy online. I'm 19 and he's 21. We aren't dating or anything. We are just pen pals/friends. He's currently deployed to Iraq and we talk all the time. I find myself running out of things to say and I'm just like I know I have to be boring you, but he keeps telling me he likes talking to me. I enjoy talking to him too, but I don't know its hard to think of things sometimes. I send him random videos when I'm doing something that I think will make him laugh ie.. I sent him a video of me singing in my car.  If I had a previous relationship with him, I think it might be easier. Any suggestions?

Thanks =)

I would say to just treat it like any other friendship. When you meet someone new and form a friendship with them, you have to get to know them. With technology what it is today, it's easy to really get to know someone over the internet. What would you talk about if you felt like there was nothing to say when talking to a friend face to face?

Hey! I'm Mary/27/Maine. My guy is Ryan/home from deployment/full time student/Maine.

I think it's great that you have made friends with someone who is serving in Iraq. It can get lonely for our guys out there. With that being said, I would also caution you! Hold off on those romantic feelings for a while....Being away from home can stir up some strong emotions. It's great that this guy has you to chat, confide, and laugh with. You are right - it might be easier for you if you two had dated before. I would be very cautious if I were you!

Stick around, it's nice to meet you!

Thanks for the advice and the warm welcome. I guess I chose the wrong words. I should have said I would have prefered a previous friendship instead of a relationship. I applaud all you ladies that has/had a boyfriend/husband/fiance over there I know that had to be incredibly hard.
