I don't have children so my comment might not count but I can't believe she did that, I myself wouldn't even want to walk back to my house or use public transpartation alone in a big city.  There are to many wierdo's out there that you can't trust and anything could have happend to him.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I won't even let my 8 year old go to the park behind the houses to the side of us alone. If I can't see her from my house, she doesn't go without me... PERIOD, NO exceptions!!!! If I leave my kids in my house alone, it is ONLY to go to the mail box or run next door to borrow something.

She did this in New York City!!!!!! Is this woman out of her flippin' mind?!?! I think she should be turned in to CPS for that crap. No decent mother would do that. Yea, kids are always going to want their independence. They ALL do. It's in their nature. She should feel VERY lucky that she still has a child to want independence. There are too many things that could happen to a child that young in such a large city (in ANY city actually) for her to just let him go off on his own.

My question would be...where does she go from here? Most parents give their children a little bit of independence at a time. Gradually increasing the luxury when the child proves they are responsible enough for more. She gave him the whole hog at one time. Now it's going to be, "I proved I can ride the subway alone- I wanna go to a rock concert in Jersey by myself." What 'parent card' does she play then? Yes, the child did prove he was responsible enough and mature enough to handle himself in this situation- but now what?

I'm wondering how the Today show found out about this story.  Did the mother blog about it or something?  I'm also wondering how letting your 9 yo wander the streets of Manhattan is acceptable, yet the mother who left her sleeping 2 yo in a car within sight with the car running and doors locked, gets arrested.

Dora is only what= 7 or 8?  She goes all over the freakin place without parents!  Heck- Diego isn't old enough to drive a car- but he scales trees and plays with Jaguars and Pumas and do we ever see HIS parents?

If they can fly planes and use ziplines in the rainforest and climb ancient pyramids for treefrogs and paddle canoes in the amazon- then why can't this 9 year old make it through the city?

I hope you all know I am posting this totally to be silly.  I know I haven't posted for a while on here.  Just had to put that out there though.  I know I am not the only one who thinks this!!!!
