Hope you guys don't mind me asking but if you're a stay at home wife/mother how do you handle the finances? Is it a joint thing or do you or your husband handle it separately?

Thanks!

We've had a joint account since before we were married.  I did stop working after our daughter was born, that was always our plan, and nothing changed in the way we handle our money.

Before we were married I told him, "what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine, get used to it now"  ;)

That's what works for us.

I am a stay-at-home wife, no children, to a Marine. I handle all of our finances, and have since we were married over three years ago.

We currently live in Japan, and still own property in the US. It is imperative that we have a budget and someone who is on top of our finances, but my husband is often deployed so it's almost impossible for him to manage it properly.

I don't mind doing it, and my husband is aware of how all of our money is spent/saved.

Hope this helps!

I stay at home with our son and we have a joint bank account that we both have full access to. I am on our credit card and the car, of course. Anything he does affects me and vice versa. It works wonderfully for us, we balance each other out and keep each other in check. I have never felt like I am spending his money because we both think of it as ours. I have my degree in computer science and when I get a job (want to stay at home with the little one and future ones until they go to kindergarten) I would not want him to think that the money I make is mine. Even now when I get paid for a photography session I put it into our account, not in my pocket. I am very happy it works out for us, for some it doesn't go as smoothly.

We were both raised to believe a marriage is an equal partnership in all aspects. We have carried that belief to our finances. Early in our marriage I worked and he was in school and now I stay home with our girls. I do most of the money managing due to his constant workups and deployments it just works much smoother this way. I never make a big purchase without his knowledge. I am not allowed to call it his money. Rob has been very clear about this me and with others. We work together.
