I've been given vicoprofen for my tooth until I get my wisdoms removed next week. Is it normal to have a bit of a headache as the medication is wearing off? I'm trying to spread out how often I'm taking it, even though I'm hurting, because I don't want to become too reliant on it to manage the pain or chance getting addicted. I've noticed though that as it's wearing off, I have a bit of a headache. Not much, but definitely there. Anyone with any experience? Is this normal, or should I call the dentist about this?
I've never taken it and rarely hand out that combo to any patients of mine, but I'm fairly certain a number of people DO have headaches as the med comes out of their system, just as a slim side effect. You could just have a headache from the dental work itself! Also... it's great that you're trying to spread the meds out, but honestly the probability of you becoming reliant or 'addicted' to the medication when you are having such acute pain is slim to none (unless you have had previous addiction issues, then I would understand someone's concerns). If you were using it when you didn't have high enough pain for it, ok yeah maybe... but don't make yourself miserable worrying about the addiction part of it when you are so painful!! Keep on schedule and wean yourself off a few days out! I hope you feel better!
The only reason I'm on vicoprofen and not vicodin is because I'm allergic to acetominophen. I can take ibuprofen no problem, though, but 800mg wasn't touching the pain. This is helping, though, so yay. Thanks for your reply, I kinda figured you would, working in the medical field. :P
I think that the headache might be from your wisdom teeth. I have taken vicodin before, but haven't had a headache from it. I did notice it made me sweat, and then I couldn't sleep! Have you checked the pamphlet that they gave you with your prescription to see if that is one of the side effects? Hope you feel better!
