Hi everyone, I am not yet a newlywed however, i need some advice from those who are. I was looking for a first dance song since my fiance and I don't have "our song" and a common song we both like is a techno song which we don't want to dance to as our first song.

my issue is, I wanted an alternative rock song and I REALLY like this song called Cath by Death Cab for Cutie however when reading to the lyrics, I found out the song is about this girl who is either dying or losing faith in herself and is marrying some guy that she really doesn't love. the people who attend the wedding also know that she shouldn't marry him and the marriage won't last.

i know the song is completely inapproporiate however, the tune, the beat the everything about it, i just love and i see myself dancing to it...as long as no one pays attention to the lyrics, yet part of me feels like if i dance to a song with lyrics like that, I'm cursing my marriage.

My other option was Maps by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I's nice but really upbeat and not one that my husband to be and i could dance to slowly. The lyrics of this song are more approporiate   "They don't love you like I love you" but once again, more fast paced. I cannot thik of any other songs I want to dance to.

I wanted to know if you guys think it would be okay for me to dance to the first song despite the lyrics. I have dreamed of dancing to that song...until i read the lyrics. if only the lyrics could be changed.

Thanks everyone!!

Hi Hipjaz. I just got married in March and we had trouble picking our song too - we love Sarah Brightman but all her lyrics were just so sad. We decided to keep those songs away from our first dance, but we did manage to get them into the dance set and one in particular on our wedding DVD.

So we were still left with finding a meaningful song that would be good for a first dance - most traditional love songs were just too soppy for us...

In the end we decided to make a new memory with a new song and went with Feeling Good by Michael Buble - it was fun and uplifting with the right sentiment. And not too soppy.

I don't know if that helps you at all. You are setting up a day you'll remember forever - so if you have any qualms about the song then best not to include it, I think.

As for the second, more upbeat one - can someone choreograph you a dance to it? That's what we did, so we didn't look too ridiculous dancing around on our own to music that was too fast. Take some lessons maybe?

Happy planning!

Hi!

To answer your question, personaly, I'd say no. Find something else. I like "I'll Stand by You" by The Pretenders.
