I have been able to start listening to my country music again without being upset. It took me a while. One of the songs that has really hit home is Tim McGrawエs Let It Go.
Here are the lyrics.

I致e been caught sideways out here on the crossroads
Trying to buy back the pieces I lost of my soul
It痴 hard when the devil won稚 get off your back
It痴 like carrying around the past in a hundred pound sack

{Chorus}
Today I知 gonna keep on walking
I知 gonna hold my head up high
I知 gonna leave it all behind
Today I知 gonna stand out in the rain
Let it wash it all away Yeah wash it all away
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah

Skeletons and Ghosts are hiding in the shadows
Threatening me with all the things that they know
Choices and mistakes, they all know my name
But I知 through holding in and holding onto all that pain

Today I知 gonna keep on walking
I知 gonna hold my head up high
Got No more tears to cry
Today I知 gonna stand out in the rain
Let it wash it all away Yeah wash it all away
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah

And I know I know I know I know I致e been forgiven
I know I know I know I知 gonna start living
Today I知 gonna keep on walking
I知 gonna hold my head up high
I知 gonna leave it all behind
Today I知 gonna stand out in the rain
Let it wash it all away Yeah wash it all away
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah
I知 gonna let it go Oh yeah
Oh yeah

That is nice. I'm reading a book called Eat, Pray, Love. There's a part where someone gave the author (recently divorced) some instructions on letting go of her guilt and pain. Here they are below.

Instructions for Freedom

Life's metaphors are God's instructions.

The day is ending. It's time for something that was beautiful to turn into something else that is beautiful. Now, let go.

Your wish for resolution was a prayer. Your being here is God's response. Let go, and watch the stars come out - on the outside and on the inside.

With all your heart, ask for grace, and let go.

With all your heart, forgive him, FORGIVE YOURSELF, and let him go.

Let your intention be freedom from useless suffering. Then, let go.

Watch the heat of day pass into the cool night. Let go.

When the karma of a relationship is done, only love remains. It's safe. Let go.

When the past has passed from you at last, let go. Then begin the rest of your life. With great joy.

It's funny you put this up. My H was listening to this the day before he asked for a divorce and I could tell that it really got to him, because he got up and walked away during the song. So, I associate this song with him thinking he was going to let the marriage go... Funny how the same lyrics can speak so differently to people. I understand the message in the song about moving on, etc. but to me it will always be about the end of my marriage.

I love country and I admit, I still listen very selectively, even almost a year later....it really speaks to the heart. I guess that's why we like it :-)

I LOVE lyrics, especially country music lyrics.... well, anything that is good, I suppose LOL.

You'll probably like Miranda Lambert's song, "New Strings" too :-)

I bet this road will take me out of here
Take me far away from Amarillo
I bet this car will go real fast
The wheels might even drive me past
The places that you said I'd never go
Oh...

The Texas Sky is the biggest one I've seen
But it still ain't big enough for you and me
All the things that make you mad
And all the baggage in your past
Don't leave much room for a girl like me to be
So I'll fill her up with hope and worn-out dreams

And I'll grab the wheel and I'll point it west
Pack the good and leave the rest
I'll drive until I find the missing piece
You said I wouldn't get too far on a tank of gas
And an empty heart
But I got everything I'll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings

Mama said I never should have done it
I should have ended us before we ever started
Daddy knew about my pride so he stood there
And he smiled inside and I pretended that I
Didn't notice a little tear that fell when I said I was going

And I'll grab the wheel and I'll point it west
Pack the good and leave the rest
And drive until I find the missing piece
You said I wouldn't get too far on a tank of gas
And an empty heart
But I got everything I'll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings

I've worried about life and
If it's arriving right on time
I guess if you don't jump
You'll never know if you can fly

You said I wouldn't get too far on a tank of gas
And an empty heart
But I got everything I'll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings
